August 29, 20214 yr Has anyone tried the new flight lessons since SU5? The previous set seemed pretty decent, at least the few I tried. The new, "more-accessible" ones, OTOH... Specifically, I'm thinking of lesson 7, on attitude and power management. The lesson is supposed to start with you in cruise attitude at 5,500 feet. The problem is, you don't start anywhere near that height. I just re-ran it again and, when the lesson begins, the altimeter shows you at around 3,750 feet. Then you are immediately told to throttle down to 2000 RPM while holding level. You have two choices: either follow instructions and level off, whereupon, later in the flight, you'll be failed for being "too low," or immediately try a steep climb to 5,500, whereupon first you'll get Certified Flight Instructor Cortana telling you over and over to level off, then you'll get failed for "putting the aircraft in a dangerous position." Has anyone figured out how to get through that lesson without getting dinged on one or the other of these? James David Walley Ryzen 7 7700X, 32 GB, RTX 3080
August 29, 20214 yr I had posted about this earlier but didn't seem to get much traction. I found that if you press active pause as the lesson starts and wait. The altimeter will spin around to the correct height - that's what I found, this might be the same for you too. Sam Book
August 29, 20214 yr Is it possible the altimeter pressure is way off by default and resetting with the B key would help?

I found if the altimeter is incorrect, which is often the case, hit restart and it should be accurate then. I kept having this issue on the Downwind lesson and after restarting, the altimeter would correctly show 6,000 feet. Below... I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong on #3. Final Approach and Landing. It always gives me around 2150 points even though last time I maintained 65 kts and the glideslope, and braked on the centerline. This happened in earlier lessons too despite thinking I did everything nearly perfect. Not that it matters since I still got an A, but what am I doing wrong??? I'm using the training to supplement my current real world training, and am looking to purchase FSFlyingSchool once I complete all lessons with an A. Edited August 29, 20214 yr by NightOfDreams

I tried that, and it worked -- somewhat. As I waited, the altimeter slowly spun up to 5.500 feet, with the emphasis on "slowly." During the time I was waiting for it to reach the proper altitude, CFI Cortana told me to "throttle down to 2,000 RPM while maintaining 5,500 feet" about six times, and that must have affected my score on the first section of the test, where I only got 809/1500. Fortunately, it enabled me to nail the other two sections, so I got an overall A, but it was still rather frustrating. Beyond that, I'm wondering if I should just ditch the in-game training and get either the FS Academy programs or FS Flying School. Has anyone used one or both of these, so you can give recommendations? Also, do you know if they're both compatible with SU5? I tried it, and it had zero effect. Incidentally, the same problem happened on the next lesson, except even worse, as you're supposed to start at 6,000 feet instead of 5,500. Thus, an even longer Active Pause and more complaints (and a lowering of score) from CFI Cortana Frankly, I think I'm going to ditch the built-in lessons and get the FS Academy courses, as I've been watching YouTube streams of other sim pilots using it, and it seems to do a lot better.
