"Dumbing-down" is a phrase implying a deliberate reduction in graphics quality, which, if it had been done, would have been apparent to everybody. The fact that many of us did not see any reduction in graphics, even though others did, rules out any such deliberate intent. Yes, there were problems for some, but "dumbing-down", absolutely not. That idea is absurd. I also had and have no pop ins. But I have a good hardware (3080). Maybe pop-ins occur only on weak(er) hardware? Therefore my question would be, whether anybody with a high end GPU did experience the pop-ins? If not, nothing has been "dumbed down". Because it would mean, that better hardware gives you better results. Exactly as it ever has been.
September 20, 20214 yr I agree. "better hardware gives you better results" is certainly true. And any deliberate reduction of graphic quality (dumbing-down) would be evident to everyone, including those with high-end systems -- how could it not be?. Clearly this is not the case.
