Switching from sim helicopters to a real Robinson R22

Featured Replies

After countess hours learning how to fly helicopters first in Aerofly, then Xplane, then MSFS, I had a one hour lesson in a real Robinson R22 helicopter. The video below shows the last 10 minutes of my lesson.

At the end, you found your previous practice in Flight Simulators useful for real thing or not? What kind of hardware you used to your practice, a simple joystick or a more sophisticated device ( for example: OE-XAM , ProFlight trainer PUMA devices, etc )

Yes, absolutely, previous practice with sim was extremely useful. Having experienced how the controls interact with each other made the real life experience  much easier.  I use the complete Maxflightstick setup and a Reverb G2 for VR. Using VR is a game changer when it comes to learning to fly helicopters. I made huge progress once I changed from a flat screen to VR.
