October 30, 20214 yr We'll start at Half Moon Bay airport (KHAF), head up the coast and cut over to KSFO. From there we will overfly the city with its various attractions and head north a bit into the Sonoma valley, before following a clock-wise scenic flight ending up at Palo Alto. Flightplan is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1r9b2tvm1arrxgh/VFR Half Moon Bay (KHAF) to Palo Alto (KPAO).pln?dl=0 Add-on scenery suggestion: https://flightsim.to/file/1914/san-pablo-bay-ca-san-rafael-gnoss-sonoma-valley-petaluma-muni It is not a long flight, so 120 kts airspeed will do the job: P149, Arrow, or similar.. whatever you prefer. Note the time... for the European folks, it should be the same time as usual, for the North American group, it is an hour later. November 3, 20214 yr Bert, this looks to be a beautiful flight. As the old New Yorker cartoon said, "There may not be a heaven, but somewhere there is a San Francisco." Here is a possible twist at the end. We can fly it today if we have a few extra minutes. Or we can fly it on our own later. - After landing at San Jose [KSJC], we could divert very slightly to execute a low pass over Moffett Field [KNUQ] and admire the massive airship Hanger One (small addon download here). (Not a bad rendition of this famous aviation landmark in its current stripped-down condition. But it is not fly-through-able.) - Then continue 1.8nm to fly over the Googleplex, the nominal headquarters of Google (which has offices all over the space between Moffett and the Googleplex). Colorfully modeled in the sim. - Then swing 4nm west to fly over the distinctive mission-style architecture of Stanford University. - Turn north 3.5nm over Palo Alto and Menlo Park toward the Bay, and take a look at 1 Hacker Way, the headquarters of Facebook...er...Meta. These are all powerful institutions that mark our century. - Finally, turn to land at Palo Alto [KPAO] as planned. This diversion adds about 7nm to the trip. Maybe 4-5 minutes. You can download your flightplan, adorned with these extra waypoints, and a cleaned-up version of Hanger One from my DropBox here. Again, this is a last second addition ... only if we are interested and have extra time. If not, pilots can sample these sights at a later time. M --Mike MacKuen
