New England Coast - Northbound – Part 1

New England Coast - Northbound – Part 1

We begin with a flight around Manhattan and then proceed to crisscross Long Island Sound visiting airports in Long Island, Connecticut, and Rhode Island  before finishing at Nantucket.   We will depart from the business jet hub of Teterboro (KTEB), climb to 700 feet, and fly to the Hudson River, then follow it down to New York Harbor while enjoying views of the skyline of Manhattan. Reaching the Statue of Liberty we will reverse direction and head back across the Inner Harbor to the Brooklyn Bridge and then follow the East River up to Harlem and then on to our first landing at Westchester County (KHPN).  Working our way up Long Island Sound we will visit

  •          KFRG - Republic
  •          KBDR - Bridgeport Sikorsky Memorial
  •          KHVN -Tweed-New Haven
  •          KHTO - East Hampton
  •          KGON - Groton-New London
  •          KUUU - Newport State
  •          KMVY - Martha's Vineyard
  •          KACK - Nantucket Memorial

Flightplan: HERE

Aircraft

The route is 288nm and an aircraft capable of 150knts cruise speed will work.  I will fly the Cessna 208 Caravan which offers excellent visibility for the sightseeing around Manhattan.

By Heck. Samscene New York puts a heavy load on my rig. Hope to be back from work in time for this.

Great suggestion, Bert. Some have reported that the KLGA&Bridges addon clashes with the SamScene NYC scenery. But a quick test confirms that the two pieces do seem to work in tandem. A little pause at the start, but fine thereafter. Bry, the SamScene NYC is a challenge for my older computer. But gosh, it is terrific to see crisp versions of all the great buildings – as Jeff suggests.

BTW. For those who don't want the SamScene package, you might look at Ed Patino's
New York City Landmarks. This freeware offers sharp renderings of many of NYC's buildings. (The casual comments on the forums are pretty positive. The color matching gets mentions but most people find it an attractive option.) If you give it a try, you might let us all know what you think.
