CPU temperatures no longer read

Featured Replies

Gigabyte Z590 AORUS ELITE AX ATX Motherboard. Intel i5 10600K CPU.
PC closed down this morning  and it turns out that the CPU temperatures are no longer showing in either the BIOS or HWInfo.
This stopped the Corsair H 80 fans and the CPU fan, causing the close down.
The two fan headers are now off but plugging the H 80 into another header has reactivated the fan and let the PC run.

My question is this:
Is this a fault in the CPU or is it a fault on the motherboard?
An informed answer would be most welcome, I can make my own guesses.

Thank you.

This is the BIOS.

It could be a changed/corrupt BIOS setting, so perhaps try resetting the BIOS to optimized defaults.

Many thanks, I tried that but it has made no difference.
If it helps, in HwInfo, the entire sensor section is missing.
In Core Temp, I see this:

It's just going to be educated guesses I'm afraid. Issue like this can have a number of causes.

I would say install the latest BIOS. Not just optimised defaults. If that doesn't work I'd be suspecting a faulty motherboard header.

It's not a CPU issue I wouldn't think.

Sometimes wiggling the connector on the header reveals the fault and it briefly works again. But if its both CPU header and optional CPU header, sounds like a board issue.

Something else you can do is look at how the fan header is configured in the BIOS, if it's set to PWM or auto or DC. Switching settings might help
