Question about built-in training sessions

Featured Replies

Hi again. This question is for anyone familiar with the built-in training lessons. I just started them today. The first two were easy. I started the third one. At one point the instructor shows how to make a proper right turn. Then she says 'now it's your turn' and control is turned over to me. I begin to make a turn but as soon as control is turned over to me the plane begins to lose power no matter what I do. Eventually the plane can't stay in the air and it crashes. I have tried this session three times now and no matter what I do I can't seem to control the engine power. The throttle seems to have no effect. Are the controls different during a training session?

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on. I didn't expect to get stuck on a simple exercise to make a turn.

UPDATE: NEVER MIND - I found another thread that reminded me that once control is turned over to me, what I have the yoke and throttle set to matter. I had the magnetos and all electronics turned off on the yoke. Once I set the yoke controls to match what the sim wanted, everything worked fine :-).

Thanks,

Rob

I think it's because MSFS falsely assumes which controllers you will be using. It happened with me. For instance I don't use the keyboard to fly except once every half hour for something. I use buttons on my HOTAS controllers for everything instead.

So she turns the controls over to me and I use my flight controller to do as she asks and nothing happens. She is waiting for me to do the same thing with the keyboard, or the default controller profiles, not the profiles that I use. So I am stuck with an uncontrollable plane.

There are other (mostly payware) lessons and they all work perfectly in my experience no matter what you use for control. But the Asobo ones only work if you use the 'default' profiles or the keyboard. Therefore I can't do any of the Asobo lessons. Might be your problem is the same, it sure seems like it could be.

It can be frustrating when things don't seem to click during training sessions. Your update made me chuckle a bit – it's like the "aha" moment we've all had at some point. Glad you sorted it out with the yoke controls! Flying is a learning curve, and sometimes those little details sneak up on us. I remember my early days – spent more time in a virtual nosedive than soaring smoothly. But if you enjoy undergoing training, then explore https://trainingasia.com.my/. I think it will be quite interesting. Your experience will be a story you'll laugh about down the road.
