Recommended Posts

Hi,I wanted to know whether there is a distinction between gold stripes and silver stripes on Captain's epaulets...Also are there any regulation concerning the wearing of those apparels? (epaulets, cap...)Cheers,Cedric

I think it's just a matter of personal/corporate preference.

Hi,Tim is correct. This is how it is at KLM.As you will see they carry both colors.Captain and first officer dark blue uniforms with captain 4 broad gold stripes F/O dark blue with 3 broad gold stripes on long haul second officer dark blue 2 gold stripes. The cabin crew wear narrow silver stripes on their sleeves. Senior Pursers, who wear four stripes on their sleeves, are in charge of the cabin on larger aircraft. The Senior Purser is assisted by either a Purser or Assistant Purser. Pursers also wear four stripes while Assistant Pursers have three. Cabin attendants wear one or two stripes, depending on how many years of experience they have. The cabin attendants, can be recognized by their narrow silver bands. The Purser, who is in charge of the cabin attendants, has four. In larger aircraft, the Purser is supported by an Assistant Purser who has three bands. Cabin attendants have one or two bands, depending on their experience.Chris

I believe some airlines have the chief pilots wearing gold, and the rest wearing silver, with the captains given 4 stripe and the FOs given 3 stripe. It all depends on the airline.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have. To add to this, the "assistant" has been dropped. There are now Pursers and Senior Pursers. In some cases there are two Senior Pursers with 4 narrow silver bands on board, but only one will be responsible for the entire cabin and the other for the Economy Class section. Two band cabin attendants are indeed more experienced and they are trained to provide World Business Class service. You will not find a one-band CA in WBC.CA's typically fly 3 types of aircraft. e.g 737, MD11 and 777 ; 767 MD11 and 747 etcPilots only fly one type. For the 737 range most are allowed to fly both the 737 PG and NG.
