December 22, 20214 yr Toncontín, the famed tough approach airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras has shut down and is being replaced by a new airport. It is nicely represented in MSFS but now we need the new one. I wonder who will do that scenery? Anyway, the Captain of the last departing AA flight bid a nice farewell to the airport. It's in Spanish, but you get the gist. Lee Piloto Sorprende a Todos en Último Vuelo de American en el Aeropuerto Toncontín - YouTube Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090

Lee Piloto Sorprende a Todos en Último Vuelo de American en el Aeropuerto Toncontín - YouTube Based on the Spanish language reports I've heard, Toncontin is not being shut down. It is going to continue to be used for domestic flights. International flights will go into Comayagua, which is the Soto Cano airbase not (too) far away. This has happened before, for example in 2008 when Toncontin was temporarily shut down after a crash, flights were diverted to Soto Cano for a while. Actually it sounds like a few international flights will still go into Toncontin for now, namely some flights by La Costena from Nicaragua, and from a Guatemalan airline. But they fly smaller aircraft. It sounds like the days of A319's and 737's going into Tonocontin are largely over -- but not for us, we can re-create these flights and the famous circle-to-land approach to Rwy 02.
