May 7, 200719 yr Hi,I recently installed FSX Deluxe on Vista but the FSX install program didn't create program icons in the start menu? Am I the only one to have this issue? What's the fix apart from browsing to program files and launching FSX.exe?Rgds,JCMK
May 7, 200719 yr Browse to the fsx.exe and right click on it and create a shortcut. You can now click and hold on the shortcut and drag it to where you want it, namely start menu (hover over the start menu for a couple of seconds with the icon and it will open) > all programs > somewhere in that list
May 7, 200719 yr Vista puts the FSX shortcut in the Games start menu folder. Hit Start, then on the right there is a Games entry, hit this and there she is along with all your other games. After you've opened FSX a few times the shortcut will appear on the left of the Start menu as in XP.Mike. May 7, 200719 yr I have Vista Ultimate, and no games that are part of my games folder ever show up on the start menu as they do in XP. For some odd reason, some of the default games, such as regular solitaire, didn't show up in the games folder after installation but they do show up in the start menu after opening them up a few times, just like XP. Maybe it's a glitch with my installation. I need to reinstall anyway, but waiting for SP1 for FSX to do so.
May 7, 200719 yr I've noticed some odd behaviour with the Vista start menu system - folders and shortcuts that are deleted sometimes remain visable, sort ordering doesn't "stick", etc.The "Games Explorer" system is an interesting concept, but it only really works for games "Designed for Vista" (logo program). This logo stamp has a requirement to support the new games interface. Personally, I like the old fashioned method of a simple shortcut in the start menu, which I end up creating manually for FSX.In Microsoft's efforts to make the system easier for the average user, it gives the appearence that the package has been dumbed down for us more advanced users. Best Vista feature so far: "Searching" the start/programs menu. Click the start button, TYPE the first few letters of the program you want, hit enter - BAM! It's launching. It's often far faster to do that then navigate the menus. -GG
May 7, 200719 yr Author I didn't see anyone mention this, but if you right click on any entry in the games browser, there are options to pin it to the start menu or the quick launch bar.
