January 11, 20224 yr Hello, whenever i try to load the weather injector i get the error "Weather file missing error" "The current Wx_snapshot.txt file appears to be corrupt or empty. Will now use NOAA Weather." Already tried reinstalling active sky but no luck. P2A weather tab is pointed to "C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\AS_XPL\Weather Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
January 23, 20224 yr Similar issue in P3D V4.5 HF2, worked some days ago, nothing changed except I did an update of P2A 2.6.2.4 public beta 2f to P2A 2.6.3.0 public beta 2c. Weather file ...\AppData\Roaming\Hifi\AS_P3Dv4\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt created by ASP3D 7410 seems ok, here the first three entries: CWND::CWND 061100Z AUTO 30022KT M21/M23 RMK AO1 PK WND 30026/1019 SLP158 T12071230 53002::*::319,35,-21.32/316,44,-18.10/317,45,-19.28/324,45,-25.83/328,50,-36.62/331,61,-45.70/332,76,-53.59/330,71,-54.45/327,68,-55.31 CWIL::CWIL 061100Z AUTO 24019KT ////SM FEW055 FEW075 FEW100 ///// A////::*::253,20,-21.03/274,17,-21.89/267,14,-19.00/300,13,-25.05/273,16,-38.05/270,19,-50.05/264,24,-62.91/288,20,-61.91/306,19,-59.99 CWVD::CWVD 061100Z AUTO 30021KT ////SM OVC003 M19/M22 A2893::*::299,26,-18.97/317,22,-19.00/330,18,-16.93/47,6,-22.07/11,8,-37.00/19,9,-48.80/142,22,-57.96/142,24,-62.93/139,15,-66.76
January 23, 20224 yr Commercial Member That message is given when P2A cannot open the file in the designated location. Check to be sure you have the correct folder specified and that P2A has permission to access that folder and file. Dave
January 23, 20224 yr Did an update to 2d (must have been released some minutes ago - faster than light speed 🙃 ) Did a fallback to 2.6.3.0 1d (as 1e states "Fixes another issue with ASN weather display"), error message gone, works again...
January 23, 20224 yr I started 2.6.3.0 2c & 2d even as administrator. Now with 2.6.3.0 1d without any other changes, it worked as before in 2.6.2.4 2f. By the way, the error message was shown after importing a flight plan (created by Plan-G), don't know if that matters ?
January 23, 20224 yr Commercial Member The flight plan would not affect how the weather works. Are you saying that ASN weather is not being read with 2.6.3.0 Beta 2d? I am able to read ASN weather on my system with Beta 2d. Dave
January 23, 20224 yr Hmm, maybe because I stay on Active Sky for P3D (as I run P3d 4.5 HF2) ? The last hour, I tried to fly but felt into the "Windows volume mixer for P2A on zero" problem. Fiddled around until I noticed vol=0 in the windows mixer for application P2A. To solve, I did a fallback to 2.6.2.4 2f at first, with it, two days ago everything worked. Then I found the Win vol control on 0 and solved it, afterwards, I updated again to 2.6.3.0 1d. No problem / no error message loading the flight plan. Then I created the same flight plan in P2A to exclude the Plan-G creation of the flight plan. The same happens, error with current_wx_snapshot.txt, on loading the vbf or importing the exported .pln file. I checked the "security" settings of current_wx_snapshot.txt, my user owns all rights. Running P2A as administrator doesn't help either. Now, I reinstalled 2.6.3.0 pb 1d - works. As I went back in the version before the least ASN modification I found on your site, maybe pb 1e "Fixes another issue with ASN weather display" brought some incompatibility with my older AS for Prepar3D V4 ? The message doesn't say that it cannot read the current_wx_snapshot.txt but that it's "corrupt or empty". It's late now...I will stay on 2.6.3.0 1d and maybe investigate the next evenings or next weekend...
January 24, 20224 yr Installed 2.6.3.0 1e and got the error message, no matter loading a .vbf or importing a .pln, no matter the .pln was created by P2A or Plan-G. It seems, in opposite to 1d, public beta 1e has difficulties processing Active Sky for P3D V4 (and Active Sky for XPlane) current_wx_snapshot.txt. As I'm not very experienced with file sharing, I tried to upload the file, the link ishttps://file.io/S3XjmSlAr77P Maybe you would compare it to yours ?
January 24, 20224 yr Commercial Member The file link says it has been deleted, so I can't test it. But I suspect that is not the problem. One thing that could cause an access error would be if Active Sky is writing to the file at the same moment P2A is trying to read it. This error message could also be caused if the METAR data is not available for the requested airport. I have changed the message to indicate this. Dave Edited January 24, 20224 yr by Dave-Pilot2ATC
January 24, 20224 yr Sorry, my fault, hadn't realized... We can exclude the first point as I tried it with and without ASP3DV4. But the second one hits: I didn't recognize that I used some flight plans with smaller airports for testing: LSGK, LFMR, LFNC And they have no entries in current_wx_snapshot.txt. Loading/importing routes with bigger airports work well in 2.6.3.0 2d. Although ASP3DV4 shows information for e.g. LSGK (wind direction and speed) in its menu ("Flight Plan","Briefing"), it doesn't create a METAR line in its weather file. The same is true for LFMR and LFNC. So P2A couldn't find a METAR line. I checked the database of ASP3DV4 and find LSGK, LFMR and LFMC. Then I found this older thread: Quote You could use the "Edit Station Database" tool under the tools menu, to "+ Stations". You will need the exact Lat, Long and Elevation (can get from the AFCAD file for the Airports). You will not get METARS, but interpolated weather for these user-created stations. I did this when FAJS changed to FAOR, until Hi Fi updated their database, and I seem to remember it worked to allow flight plans to be accepted as an interim measure. and this information for LSGK Saanen airport: https://metar-taf.com/airport/LSGK Quote Saanen does not publish a METAR, the nearest weather station is Sion Airport, which is 19 mi away. I didn't edit the station database but it seems, for airports that have no real weather station, even if they are in the AS database, no METAR is generated into the weather file.
January 24, 20224 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the update. The next update will only show the "file corrupt or missing" message if the program cannot read the file. If there is no METAR for the airport, it will look for the nearest airport with a METAR available and display that one. No error message. This is consistent with the behavior of NOAA weather as a source. Dave
