TileProxy Observation/Question/Potential Warning

Featured Replies

I am posting this in both the FSX and FS9 forums as both programs seem to be affected.I downloaded and installed TileProxy yesterday, but was unable to get it to work properly. After the installation, I noticed that not only would FSX not load, but FS9, which is on a totally different drive would also not load. Removing TileProxy resolved the issue with both programs.I do not know if this has been previously reported, but does anyone have a solution or thought on this one? I like the concept and the other positive reports about TileProxy, but as I still use FS9 as my primary simulator with only occasional FSX usage, can't use the program if it's going to mess with FS9.Ed GreenKCLT

I assume you've installed it exactly as detailed and that you're not beta testing SP1 (although if you were you shouldn't really tell us anyway!:-) )

I have had trouble running fs9 and fsx on my laptop. From what I can tell, running both screws up the scenery cfg if there are different entries in one vs. the other. Every time I would switch from one to the other the scenery cfg would rebuild and then the program would crash (fs9). I would suspect perhaps this happened, as now you will have multiple entries for tileproxy in your fsx scenery cfg vs. none in your fs9. I could be completely wrong though, obviously.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

I checked both scenery.cfg files and currently ( with TileProxy uninstalled) there are no references to that program in either.I did notice that FSX did rebuild its scenery.cfg file after Tileproxy was uninstalled although FS9 does not appear to have done that. The observed issue was that neither FS9.exe or FSX.exe would run, either by clicking on the shortcuts or the main files themselves. Both files are operating properly now with Tileproxy removed. The AV software was shut down on the system. And no, I'm not a SP1 tester.Dunno......Ed GreenKCLT

Hmm...don't really know. Perhaps those with more knowledge could answer. All I can add is to mention in what order I open and close FSX and Tileproxy on my system but I guess you do the same anyway.

I'm running FSX with TileProxy installed and properly configured (meaning it works) as well as two seperate configs of FS9 and also Golden WIngs 3 (a whole seperate FS9 installation modified for the GW3 environment) and all are working. On top of that, I am running a switcher tool to engage or disengage the TileProxy mod for FSX, which means that the FSX.CFG, SCENERY.CFG and SCENERYSTATUS.BIN files are swapped out for TP/Non-TP configuration so FSX can be launched in TileProxy versus Stock mode depending on how I want to fly and what I want to do (the scenery database does rebuild itself when this swap is made, this is normal). All are working as advertised, and also I began with the Beta1 of TP and am on Beta2 now.You may have a root issue with your registry entries for FS9 (remember there's an old problem from FSX Demo where uninstalling it could remove your FS9 registry entries) or some other problem. There are tools out there to validate your FSX and FS9 registry entries. Also, as the author has stated, the TP project does require a fair level of technical ability to configure properly to get working. I'm not suggesting you may not have that ability, I mention it only because in going through all the motions there may be something unique to your system or your practices that caused the issue you report, since TP does seem benign and coexists well with FS9 and even stock FSX as far as I can see. Good heads-up for the faint of heart though.

Not aware of any registry issues, but it's easy enough to check which I will do.......My FS9 installation has been rock solid for about two years now with no significant mods needed or made......I did have the FSX Demo, but FSX was running OK also; I just don't use it very much as I still prefer FS9, all things considered. SP1 could change that which is why I tried Tileproxy.... Ed GreenKCLT

Thanks!

Ahhh....wel if you did have the FSX demo, and FS9 installed, and then uninstalled the FSX Demo, there can be some problems that normally you may not notice until you go to install something that looks for the FS9 registry entries. Uninstalling the FSX Demo has (reportedly) wiped out certain FS9 registry entries in the past for some people, including me.I have a lil' write-up I made at my "home hangar" and rather than re-type it all, if it's OK to post an off-site link here, you might go read this:http://com-central.net/index.php?name=Foru...iewtopic&t=5885It includes links to the freeware (and easy) tools that can restore your FS9 entries easily, as well as make your FSX entries appear properly in a second location that some installers may look for. All explained in the writeup and good luck! :)

Yup. That was my situation too. It was well after I uninstalled the demo that I found there was an issue.
