Aussie wind

Featured Replies

Flying right now from YJUK to YPTJ in the red desert of Australia at  4500 feet (nasty cumulus all around me from about 5000 feet up). The tail wind is an impressive 44 knots from the East. Does it sound realistic to the fellow Australians on this board ?

It gives a nice 165 knots GS in the Porter at a 43 gph 😄 !

BTW impressive imagery and mesh where I fly.

According to Foreflight, the GFS forecast winds aloft at YPTJ is 115 degrees at 35 knots right now at 6000 feet.

Thanks ! Just landed. At 1877 feet, the upwind was at 22 knots, mercifully almost in the direction of the runway.  I guess my Porter has never flown so fast  but the landing was a peach 😀 !

If you don't have access to ForeFlight, Windy.com is an alternative source of weather information. Can highlight choose plenty of different variables (including wind at different altitudes) and search airports by ICAO codes.
