North and south of Brisbane

Featured Replies

During this flight, we will visit the area around Brisbane and land at some of the airports we from our flights in FSX and P3D.

We depart vom Noosa (YNSH) and work our way basically south. The first landing will be at Sunshine Coast (YBSU). From here we turn inland a bit and search for The Big Pineapple (an Asobo POI) before returning to the coast and land at Caloundra (YCDR). We continue south and land at Caboolture (YCAB) and only 10 miles further at Redcliffe (YRED). Now we enter the Brisbane area and after landing at Brisbane Intl. (YBBN) we fly along the Brisbane river and search for the many POI placed along the river.

To enjoy the scenery bit we turn inland again before turning south for the next landing at Amberley (YAMB). On the way to Archerfield (YBAF) we pass the Railway Yards [WP7) and the Indooroopilly Bridge [WP8]. After departing Archerfield we fly over a large shopping center [WP9] and land at Southport (YSPT). We follow the coast and reach Gold Coast (YBCG). From here we turn away from the coast and land at the small airstrip Nobbys Creek (YNOB). We continue west and south for a while and then turn back to the coast. The next landing is at Tyagarah (YTYH). We fly over the Cape Byron Lighthouse, follow the coast, and reach today’s destination Ballina (YBNA).

The flight plan can be found here.

Ā The flight has about 250 miles, many POI, and 11 landings. There is no need to rush, so any light GA plane is suitable. I will be in the Just Flight PA28 Turbo Archer III. As always, please fly what you like.

There are many freeware downloads available for this flight. I recommend all of them, but YNOB is required, as it is not the default MSFS database.

Additionally, there are some payware airports available at ORBX as well:

YBBN (Airport and City Pack). I have not tried the City Pack because Brisbane is now depicted in Photogrammetry.

YCAB, YRED, YCDR, and YBNH are available as well.

We like real weather. PLease set your simulator for a 4 PM local departure.

Thanks for the chance to see the Big Pineapple (and the nearby Big Macadamia Nut). For those who are keen on Australia's Big Things, Asobo/Orbx have modeled The Big Prawn in Ballina. Next to Bunnings Ballina in West Ballina, 2.1nm at 205°M from Ballina Byron Airport's terminal. Given time constraints, this landmark might be something for individual pilots to explore on another day?
