This reminds me of something that happened to me over forty years ago. I was in Burbank, California, and went into NBC's main location on the West Coast, where, at the time, Johnny Carson did The Tonight Show. I went to the building to ask for a job application -- obviously to perform menial tasks. They had a rule that you couldn't fill out the job application onsite. You had to take it with you and fill it out at home. This prevented overcrowding in the HR department (then called the Personnel department). So I picked up the NBC application, clipped it to my clipboard, and visibly carried it out of the building, the colorful NBC logo sparkling in the sunlight. Because I had hoped (incorrectly) that I might be interviewed the same day, I was wearing a business suit and tie. As I left the building, with NBC papers in hand, I walked past several lines of people who were waiting to see various programs that NBC taped live in that studio building. Seeing how I was dressed and seeing the NBC logo printed on my papers, several people thought I was an NBC insider and motioned for me to come over to their line. I was asked if there was any way I could secure them tickets to this show or that show, or whether I could get a personal message directly through to this NBC star or that star. Of course I had no such ability and barely had enough gas money to drive back to the fleabag motel where I was staying. My point, if there is one, is that clothes and logos can evoke positive feelings and a sense of community.
