NIS Scaler Questions

Featured Replies

I keep reading about how beneficial the NIS Scaler can be. I have installed it and tried it, but I must not understand the concept for setting it up to my advantage, because I can't see any improvement. So, a few questions:

1. If I use Virtual Desktop for VR flying, can the NIS scaler be used?

2. Can someone either explain or point me to a thorough explanation somewhere else regarding how to set things up across the board to get the advantage of this tool? There are just so many components when using Airlink (Nvidia Control Panel, ODT, OTT, Oculus app, Sim. When I try to research setups it seems articles will talk about 1 or 2 of those components but I can't find a beginners (dummies) guide of how to approach the end to end setup to get a good VR experience with MSFS.

Don't get me wrong. I perfectly well understand that there is no cookie cutter set of settings that is perfect for everyone. But I'd like to think that I can do much better than I am currently with a 10900 CPU, a 3090 GPU, 32GB of 4000Mhz memory (CAS 15), a 1200 watt power supply, and NVME disk drives.

So far I have had better luck with Virtual Desktop and Steam VR but I think that may be because it's a little simpler for me to understand some of the settings.

I don't care whether I use Oculus Airlink or Virtual Desktop. I just kind of want to start all over with all defaults and then get guidance from somewhere as to how to integrate the Nvidia Control Panel settings, ODT and/or OTT. Oculus app, NIS Scaler, and Sim settings.

Can this great body of simmers point me to where I can get that kind of information, give me some end to end firsthand instruction?

In fact, if there is someone with roughly similar hardware, who is getting a very good VRF experience, I would even be willing to pay for a 1-on-1 experience working with them, Not sure how we would work that out but I'm sure there's a way.

Thanks everyone ......... Rob

I can't answer the 1st question because I don't use VD with my Quest 2. However, for the 2nd question, I'd recommend watching YouTuber Pie in the Sky Tours video on how to set up a Quest 2 for MSFS. He covers Nvidia Control Panel settings, OTT and the Oculus app. After you've set all of this up, simply run the NIS Scaler Tool last. He has a good video on setting up the scalar tool as well.

Follow these videos to establish a baseline and start to tweak up or down depending on your performance. You'll get the best bang-for-your-buck from tweaking the NIS tool so start there.

Hope this helps
