Question for Prepar3D

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, currently i have the fsx sp2, i don't know the system properties of my computer but with my current settings (aircraft quality full, the rest low) I get an average performance. I am thinking about purchasing the P3D, will i get an average Performance with the correct settings in P3D? Or at least is there any legal ways to get the older V4 version?

You can get your system specs by going to your info box (lower left, depending on which version of Windows you are using) and typing "system information".

The same box can point you to your GPU specs typing "device manager".

P3D (64 bit) made big improvements in graphics...certainly, CPU power is important, but, GPU will have a big impact to take advantage of P3D available options.

Without knowing your system specs, it would be difficult to provide a good, useful response to your question.

In general, I would say if your PC is capable of running v4.5 , it should be capable of running v5 too although LM did up the CPU requirement minimum to be able to run at 3Ghz and your GPU is DX12 capable for v5.

Coming from FSX however, I would look at LMS minimum requirements for P3D v5 and make sure your system is above the min required so you can enjoy a better experience.

As for v4 availability, P3D does not make the older main version available on their website I believe. They do supply component installers for the various sub-versions e.g. v5.0, v5.1, v5.2 and so on but not the previous major revision back.

So if you elect to go the P3D route, it would be version 5 you would be installing for your new purchase.

You actually have access to download the last available update of every major version of the product that you have had a license for under your account (even if that license has expired). So for example on my downloads page I can see links to download Prepar3d 2.5, which was the last point update of 2.x, which was the first version I bought.

In the Prepar3d store you can still buy licenses for v4 and v3, so if you really really wanted to buy a new license for 4.5, you could do so and download that version. Not that I would recommend anything other than going to 5.3 as a new customer. There are very few reasons for wanting to stick with <5.x except if you absolutely depend on an add-on that absolutely doesn't work with v5 and never will. In my experience 5.x performs better on the same hardware as 4.5 did. But, and it's a reasonably big but, you do need a reasonably modern GPU because it's DirectX 12.

My concern for the OP would be that if you get average performance under FSX SP2, chances are your hardware is relatively low-spec by today's standards, and you probably won't get good performance from P3D. It's really key that you know and understand your system specs - when you manage to look them up, if you post them here, we can advise you more.
