World Map Weirdness

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Let me start by saying I am on the SU8 Beta. Lately, when I open up the world maps, the airport I selected appears immediately, but the rest of the map takes forever to paint in. If I test my internet speed using Speedtest, I am getting over 900Mbit, so it's not slow internet.

Ideas on what may be causing this? Kind of annoying, although it doesn't seem to affect my flying (only limited testing so far).

Thanks .............. Rob

The level of detail on your world map is determined in part by your zoom level. I often see little detail until I slightly move my mouse scroll wheel, thereby zooming in enough for the city names to magically appear. Try adjusting your zoom level. That may not be the problem, but it's worth a try.

Yeah I’ve tried zooming in and out many times. It is taking like two minutes to fill in the map. That never used to happen. And this is on a gaming machine with gigabit internet (940Mbit).

When I opted for the beta there was no menu screen at all, nothing. I unsubscribed from beta, uninstalled the sim and deleted 'fs-base' and 'fs-base-ui-pages' folders  Then reïnstalled the sim and after that again subscribed to beta. All fine now. Something may have gone wrong with the install of the beta.

I wanted to let folks know what I have done and what the result was. I was not only having trouble with the world map getting painted but I was having chronic issues with all that 'your streaming speed is too slow....', and You had a connection error.....' messages.

The first thing I read was to check the hosts file. I was pretty sure I didn't have any leftovers in there, but since I know that most people have no valid entries in there (unless you are actively using the goggle mod), I just deleted the HOSTS file completely.

At first it seems that it helped a little but it was short lived.

After that I scoured the internet to see what people were saying about those problems because many people have reported having them. I ran across a thread in which someone said to go into your properties of the ethernet connection and disable IPV6 support. I knew I don't use IPV6 so I gave it a try.

I don't know if it's magic, coincidence, or temporary, but since doing that, my network connection through the sim is lightning fast (of course I have gigabit service with my IPS) and rock solid. Not one stupid message about my connections or streaming. And now the world map loads almost instantly.

So if you're not using IPV6 for anything unique, disable it in your ethernet NIC properties and see what you think. And then post because I am wondering if my experience with it is unique or whether that change will help other people.
