Grumman G-44 Condition when spawn on water runway

Featured Replies

To reproduce - choose PALH and water runway on world map. This is large Seaplane base in Anchorage AK

These 2 items are different (incorrect) compared with start on hard surface runway.

1. Starter for left engine is on and clicking, and cannot turn off for 60 seconds

2. Fuel L/R are off and the right engine dies. Left engine continues to turn.

Here is some scenery - https://flightsim.to/file/19256/palh-lake-hood-airport (not perfect)

The startup at a dock is correct - everything off.

Version MSFS - SU8Beta 1.23.11.0

Version G-44 1.8.1

Just tried this twice. Loaded into PALH. Both engines were running, both starter switches were off, left and right fuel values were on, cross feed off, both mixtures rich. I then turned off the left and right fuel values and the engines quit. I then went back to the main menu, selected PALH again and loaded the aircraft. Results were the same as above. I was only using default scenery and the default livery.

If not using the default livery, suggest you try that.

Have you tried loading the aircraft with nothing in the Community folder?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the aircraft?

Thanks for moving this thread to the MSFS subforum. Once we figure out what is happening, others may benefit from the info. I have hidden our original posts on this topic in the FSX/P3D subforum.

It would be helpful if some other G-44A users try loading into PALH and let is know here what happens.

Thx,

Al

just to confirm - at PALH you selected water runway? Works correctly for me on gravel default runway. I see the same behavior at other Seaplane bases - for example B18 in NH w/o scenery.

I will try to isolate as you suggest.

Something is flaky. I just started up the sim and tried this again, and now I'm seeing what you are seeing. I'm  wondering if what happens is related to how the state of the plane is saved when the sim is shut down. I noticed that now when I load the plane both fuel values are off. If I turn them on, both engines start right up and seem to run normally.  It is almost like the plane is loading in the middle of the start up sequence.  Or maybe there is an "on ground" test in the code that is failing for a water runway. I'm going to run some more experiments.

Clear community did not help.  If I quickly turn on both fuel sliders and restart right engine I am able to taxi on water and take off and fly.  FPS is very good.  Just the initial conditions with the stuck starter that are challenging.

I now suspect there is a coding bug somewhere. Depending on where you spawn in (parking spot, runway, etc) there apparently is a different loading file involved. I'll get together with Mark at Flysimware and see if we can figure out what is going on. May take a little while.

My file structure might be different than what you expected. Currently there is no Packages folder.  I created one from the downloaded zip but not fixed.

I also tried adding the FLT files to

E:\FsPackages\Community\flysimware-grumman-g44a\SimObjects\Airplanes\Flysimware_Grumman_G44A directory but also not fixed.

After adding, The problem remains - left starter is stuck and the fuel is off.

This is Microsoft store purchase installed on a dedicated drive.

If I look at the Asobo planes I see runwaywater.FLT in

E:\FsPackages\Official\OneStore\asobo-aircraft-c172sp-classic\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_C172SP_Classic_Floats

Looking at layout.json for 172, I see this file listed with size and date. So maybe layout needs to be updated for G44A as well.

FIX for loading at a water runway

Sorry i forgot to include a layout jason file and the folder location was slightly wrong. You start from the flysimware-grumman-g44a not the packages folder.

STORE OR STEAM LOCATION: Just locate your community folder then look for our product. Drop the folder called flysimware-grumman-g44a in the community folder and overwrite. This will place 3 files in the right location within the project itself.

Community\flysimware-grumman-g44a

MSFS MARKETPLACE: Just locate your Official\OneStore folder then look for our product. Drop the folder called flysimware-grumman-g44a in the OneStore folder and overwrite.

(Can someone who owns this product purchased from the MarketPlace confirm our product is in the OneStore folder???)

Official/OneStore\flysimware-grumman-g44a

I confirm this fix is correct for my system

MSFS = Microsoft Store Purchase

G44A = purchased retail Just Flight

My next challenge is mastering water landings. I still bounce back into the air. Most likely my technique rather than the airplane parameters.

65 Kt approach and 50 Kt touchdown sound about right?

Good to hear you have things working with the G-44A. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't fly the G44A, but would think touching down a little above stall speed would be reasonable.

Hello, did this fix get submitted to the Marketplace? I only see v.1.8.1 there and I still cannot take off from a water runway. The zip file posted here is no longer available. If someone can help that would be much appreciated.
