CTD in certain area

Featured Replies

Hi, I experience CTD when overflying the Romania. I tried to disable all addon scenery but I still get CTD. It does not happen on the exact same spot but somewhere in the area of Romania.

I have an idea that it might have to do with the mesh or default landclass.

In scenery/world/scenery I removed a file called dem76m_eu_romania.bgl, but it does not help.

Any help will be apreciated

You need to be a little more specific about what you mean by "the Romania". Do you mean the addon La Romana airport in the Dominican Republic, somewhwre in the country of Romania or anywhere else in the world ? Are you flying VFR or guided by ATC towards a recently installed addon airport maybe ?

Mesh and Land class sceneries may never have texture folders, otherwise all kinds of unpredictable problems can occur.

A CTD can also occur if you are flying a pre-programmed ATC flight plan to an airport with errors in it's Afcad data, e.g. in it's start positions. There are many other possible causes of CTDs and especially when they do not occur in exactly the same positions and flight headings, e.g. bad ground/airport textures, bad textures of AI aircraft, which unexpectedly come into view near that position, etc. etc.

Thansk for answer.

I mean the country of romania (the northern part).

In the folders scenery/world/ there is both scenery and texture folder and mesh is installed in the scenery but CTD never occured before nor in other areas.

Talking about duplicate afcads a removed all add on sceneries and it did not help.

I also removed all AI

It occurs also with og without flightplan acitvated.

Thats why I thought it had to do with default mesh or landclass

I just found that I have an AF2_LUKK.bgl placed in the world/scenery folder. That might be the problem. I remember once I had CTD problems with some af the sceneries fram Latinvfr due to some afcads placed in that folder. I will check it out later

Bad ai traffic can cause a localised CTD … try disabling all ai traffic as an initial step.

Having any Afcad files in your world/scenery should not cause any technical problems, as long as they are not duplicated anywhere else. Possible issues such as these were in fact one of the main reasons why I had decided many years ago to place ALL my Afcad files in one large (addon) scenery folder with a very high scenery priority. Another reason was that because these files often contain deviating navigational data, my FSNavigator data base creation program could gather all it's now high level data from those, while disregarding others with a lower priority.

I have three addon airports in Romania, Bacau, Otopeni and Someseni.

I opened a VFR flight at Someseni, my most Northerly Romanian airport and flew large circles around it but experienced no problems of any kind. I also searched through my whole system for a file named "dem76m_eu_romania.bgl" but could not find it.

However, I do have a single rather large (57.928 Kb) mesh file and 32 Land Class files for Romania but these have a very low scenery priority level. Neither (= very important) of these scenery folders have texture folders.

So, at the moment I'm out of any further ideas for you and I wish you good luck.

People can only guess unless you track down what caused the crash. If you are in Windows 10 you need to look at Event Viewer. Then, when you have identified the offending file, hop over to my web site and see if it is listed there.

Thansk to all of you who took your time to help.

It seems that it was an afcad that was placed in the world scenery folder so that it did not help to delete the addon sceneries.

Instead I removed the af2_lukk.bgl.

I never fly to that airport anyway but I use the scenery in other sceneries through ez-scenery placer.

Hjwalter, It seems a god suggestion to place all afcads in the same addon scenery folder.

And thanks for testing if you also had the Romania mesh on your system. It seems to be a file I have downloaded once. Anyway that didnt cause the CTD.

And John - I just chechked your homepage. It seems as you have interesting stuff there so I will have a closer look

Glad you are sorted. Note that "duplicate AFD files cause crashes" isn't the full story. It only happens if you have different co-ordinates for the airport in the multiple files, and you can usually correct that quite easily with a suitable editor.

John, that makes sence because many sceneries have two afcads for the same airport without any issues.

Non-problem causing duplicate Afcads can be caused by different header data in each of them, e.g. something simple like the default airport name being different to that in the addon Afcad, while all the other data remains the same in both of them. However, it only hurts my eyes and ego when I see such duplicates in my FSNavigator maps.
