Ultimate no-reflections tip!

Featured Replies

There are some people (I am one of them) who do not like the reflections on the windows of the FS X aircraft. There is a picture glued on every window that 1. doesn't seem right, 2. doesn't move when I move and 3. spoils the view.A while ago I asked on this forum how to get rid of it. ( http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...92541&mode=full ) It seemed the only solution was to install the reflection.dss files that can be found in the Avsim library. Someone went all the way and provided blank reflection.dds files for ALL aircraft! Very cool! No more reflections! (The reflections files are stored in the FS X folder > SimObjects > Airplanes > specific airplane folder > Texture > airplanename_Reflection.dds)After that I bought a Track IR 4 Pro. I noticed that when I moved my head 'through' the window everything became a lot brighter! The reflection.dds files put a grey layer on everything! Although I was happy the irritating reflections were gone, I did not like that at all. Realistic or not, I would like to see everything through a COMPLETE transparent en CLEAN window!Today I suddenly got an idea... And to my utter amazement... it works! To tell you the truth, it is too simple to be true.Just RENAME or DELETE the reflection.dds file!!!I expected the airplane not to load with an error, but it loaded fine and with a CLEAN and transparent window!!! :) Of course I tested this with several aircraft before posting this here. ;)Here are three screenshots of the results (leaning 'through' the window). You can clearly see where the unobstructed view ends!1. Original reflection.ddshttp://i1.tinypic.com/67ygys9.jpg2. Reflection.dds downloaded from Avsimhttp://i9.tinypic.com/5yl9jso.jpg3. Renamed reflection.dsshttp://i18.tinypic.com/63uy8g0.jpgI though it would be nice to share this all with you. Some solutions are almost too simple to be true... ! Some may call this unrealistic, but I love it and I'm sure a lot others will love it too! No more 'obstructed' or grey views but now I can enjoy the beautiful FS X scenery in all it's crystal clear glory! :)Happy flying with a clear view! ;)

I'm actually the other way on this one. No disrespect you've made a great tweak though.I prefer the reflections in. The default FSX textures are too cartoonish and bright for me. I really am waiting for something like GEX to darken everything down a bit like GEPro did for FS9.
