May 20, 200719 yr Anyone knows if it is possible to add the GPS to the VC of the Cessna 172? I'd like to replace the COM/VOR2, ADF and, if necessary, the DME with the GPS you normaly see by pressing Shift-3. I'm planning to do a lot of VFR-flights and like to have things this way.(Yes, I know I could also use the 172 with the G1000, but for various reasons I do not want to do that. ;) )
May 20, 200719 yr The short answer is no. This is because the fsx default planes have 3d radio knobs, so if change the gauges then the knobs pop through. Looks very bad. You can, however, add a default or add on gps to basically any add on aircraft, provided it doesn't have 3d knobs in the place you aim to change. Edit the panel.cfg. It's trial and error.
May 20, 200719 yr Author Moderator You can do it, but frankly it's not worth the bother. The "3d knobs" that're in the VC model ruin the display:http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6265/c172vcgarmingg5.jpg Fr. May 20, 200719 yr A solution that costs money is to purchase Aerosoft's BeaverX which has a GPS permanently mounted in the cockpit.Jeff ShylukAvsim Product Reviewer
May 20, 200719 yr Can you add an integrated gps like that as shown to the VC of the default 737 and 747? If so, how? Thanks
May 21, 200719 yr Can't you just move it over to that clear area to the right? Or is that area not mapped in the VC?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry

May 21, 200719 yr >>Can't you just move it over to that clear area to the right?>>>Or is that area not mapped in the VC?>>There's no gauge poly there TO map. :)Would be nice if designers DID map those open areas sopanels COULD be "upgraded" or "enhanced".I know if I had the expertise to design a VC, which I don't, that would be something I would certainly incorporate.I use to use that approach in all my uP designs back when Iwas an engineer, prior to retiring. If a chip had features that weren't being used for a particular application I made sure they were accessible/usable should the need arise.... Paul

The best VC design philosophy is to use the absolute fewest possible VCockpit entries as possible, while still allowing for highest possible gauge resolution in the sim by maximizing the space "used" on the $dummy bitmap.
