(MSFS) Weather / ATIS

Featured Replies

Hey Dave,

Finding two issues, not necessarily both bugs, that I wanted to get your thoughts on:

  1. When WX is set to SIM for MSFS, it can never extract the data, the ATIS freq for any airport ends up being "weather not available". (It does however, get the correct active runway for the current conditions.)

  2. When using NOAA, i often get the wrong active runways compared to real life (and the wrong active runway compared to MSFS).

MSFS does not expose its weather to the outside world.  Hopefully they will someday, but for now, don't bother using SIM weather with them.

NOAA weather gives the weather and P2A follows an algorithm to select a runway, which may be different from the SIM or real world.  The upcoming Public Beta 2p will improve runway selection, but it will always be likely different from the SIM, especially in light winds.

You can improve the runway selection for airports where you can find the Preferred light wind runways and set those in the Runway tab of TaxiMnt.  That is the most common weather condition to get differing runways.  In the 2p beta, you can set the Pref Rwy Cross/Tailwind limits to 0 and force P2A to pick the runway based on wind direction, even in light winds and only pick the preferred runways when winds are totally calm.
