Major rivers missing?

>Is FSX KML hard to use? My coding/tweaking skills go about>as far as Doom map editing.Honestly, I think its more work to do a repaint of an airplane than it would be to beef up the Wabash River. At first its a bit of work to learn how to do things, like how to keep your river from turning into a massive canyon, but basically if you can draw a basic shape in google earth and then pick a name from a drop-down list and mash "build" you're golden.

Guys,Let me just say, unless you enjoy the work, don't waste your time updating the water. Be patient. If you can't stand the wait, go to http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_topics.asp?FID=19&PN=1 to talk about your issues.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

I've noticed a bit too much river in places, specifically in Southern California which is very arid and there are dry riverbeds which in FSX are full of water when they shouldn't be. The San Bernardino riverbed which runs east from old Norton AFB (Now "San Bernardino International" or something like that) up to the foothills of Mentone and Yucaipa, has water in FSX when in reality it's just dry and is jokingly referred to as "Mentone Beach" by the locals. Also, the Mojave river which runs North/South just east of Hesperia and toward Apple Valley, is always dry except for brief periods in the winter where it will fill up with runoff from torrential rains (and usually take a few cars with it from hapless people who still try to cross the paved roads that cross down through the riverbed with no bridge in the rare times when the water is flowing). My high school was on the other side of that riverbed and we used to rat-race on the way home on a road that drops down into the usually-dry riverbed, now we'd need amphicars I guess. :)

Data sets are updated. You know how precise and accurate everything our government does. Just look at the LandClass data. The biggest change in FSX is a new world. That is what is driving scenery and addon developers nuts.Because the FSX world is not the same as the FS2004 and older worlds. It was built from scratch without a mass data dump being ported over from the old versions. There is no direct correlation between the two verisons.

From checking several places - it appears that the water source data is set to "flood pool" levels.Take an airport like Revelstoke in British Columbia in Canada. It's runway is on a narrow finger sticking out into the lake.FSX has the airport that way. However, that lake rises and falls about 20M per yearly cycle - and much of the year, that runway has a large mud flat around the airport - as shown in the current photo on Google Earth.A check of Canadian topographical maps shows that is "lake" just the water isn't high enough in the photo. That is probably the situation with the "rivers" around your home.Heck, a year ago they were raising hay and grazing cattle on the part of Lake Lavon which is 20 feet under water today - thankfully. And with this type date in FS, we get only one snapshot to represent the whole year.As noted above - FSX_KML is a very useful tool. It isn't hard to learn after you get your head wrapped around the concepts. There may be, there certainly will be, better products on the market soon. But learning how the FSX world works and how to make changes is never a bad use of your time.
