Altimeter issue

Recommended Posts

So I have been noticing for a while that my altimeter jumps from one value to another without any apparent reasoning - let me explain. Yesterday, I was at a gate at CYVR starting the FBW A320 from cold and dark. The altimeter was reading 0948 QNH, so I pressed the B button on the keyboard and the value changed to 1021 QNH - shortly afterwards it jumps back to 0948 QNH, so I go through the procedure again and each time it happens which seems to be often. This also happens in other planes such as the Kodiak and I cannot fathom out why or as to what I may be doing wrong. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the B button might have been accidentally mapped to some other command function... Seems like it's switching between inHg to hPa. Try going into "Settings > Control Options > Set Keyboard profile to Default" and see if that fixes the B key to switch to the correct pressure. Report back with any results.

Thanks IcedOutN8, you put me on the right track. I realised that I had also mapped a button on my Hotas throttle via FSUIPC - using barometric as the control to be sent when button pressed - which I guess was in hPa. So, having remapped the throttle button to the B key on the keyboard - problem seems to be solved. Thanks again.

I thought I had cracked this issue - but unfortunately not. I have just flown the FBW A320 development plane from KSAN to KPHX - everything was just fine other than my altimeter randomly switching to a new value. The altimeter is set in hPa (my preference) and when I select the B button on the keyboard to reset it - the value was 1014 QNH at KSAN. Even whilst on the ground at KSAN, the value jumped to 0948 QNH and this happened a few times before takeoff. I reset it as you would, but even during the takeoff climb and in flight the values keeps jumping from one setting to another.

The B button on the keyboard is mapped to a button on my Hotas throttle and they both perform in synch with one another, and I cannot fathom out why this is happening and as to how I fix it.

I should point out that this issue is not isolated to the FBW A320 as I have experienced it on all other planes that I fly - so I must have something set up wrong.

Appreciate any thoughts and/or suggestions to remedy.

Just tested with the default C172, KDTW, Live Wx, current time, KDTW telephone ATIS reporting 29.98.

Sim starts on runway, engine running,  29.92 (as always).

B key now altimeter 29.97.

Waited , taxi around airport.

No altimeter changes / no jumping around.

-snip-

My guess OP is that the METAR file gets updated pretty frequently in the Sim. Asobo have changed how often the game relies on METAR at airports and it seems this is the result; too many rapid changes in weather and pressure that break immersion and realism. I remember a YouTuber's stream showcased when this occurred. The sky was clear but upon landing the airport suddenly switched to IMC. Unfortunately, there's nothing any of us can do unless a Zendesk report is opened as a bug.

Did you test this today?

Not today I'm afraid but I have seen it in the past pre-SU9.

A week or so ago, I spawned in at KORD at a gate and pressed the B key for current QNH. Clear skies with few clouds. Five or so minutes later – while going through my flows – I noticed the exterior light flooding into the cockpit drastically became dim and to my surprise, the sky changed to overcast. Pressed B again and what do you know? Pressure changed significantly as well.

The OP was not talking about an actual weather change.

Was your weather change the actual reported weather at the time and thus the correct current altimeter setting?

If not , did you report the error to Ssobo as your previously mentioned "Unfortunately, there's nothing any of us can do unless a Zendesk report is opened as a bug. "
