CDI Button on G1000 (WorkingTitle) not working with VOR?

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a strange problem with an VOR near Stuttgart Airport (EDDS).

The VOR is STG on 116.85.

The strange thing is, i fly with the standard Cessna Caravane with Working Title G1000.

I tune in 116.85 on NAV1 and it gets identified as STG.

Now im really close to the airport already, shortly before touchdown on runway  07 and now when i activate NAV mode for the AP and switch the CDI to NAV1 the green arrow shows a completely wrong direction (showing 0° or 360°).

Strange thing is, if i go to PDF Options and Bearing 1 and set it to NAV1 this shows the actual correct direction of the VOR and once i overfly it the needle changes to show im now flying away. But why is the AP unable to capture this VOR?

Why this specific VOR? Others work fine.

I would say its a bug in the game but why does it show the correct direction when using PDF -> Bearing 1?

Do i miss something here? Never had such a problem before with the G1000.

Maybe you could try it with EDDS and VOR STG on 116.85 and see if it works for you.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

so i did another test, again with the Working Title G1000.

It seems that the G1000, does not "automatically" "get" the course "towards" the VOR when i set the VOR frequenzy in NAV 1 or 2 and then switch the AP from ROL to NAV with CDI set to NAV1 or from the GPS to NAV1.

The green arrow does not automatically point towards the VOR but stays at 360° and i have to use the Course deviation indicator knob to turn the radial in manually, like for example 122°...and then, if im near the radial the Autopilot "catches" the VOR and switches from ROL to VOR.

Is this how it should be? Or is there something i miss? When i fly an ILS approach the CDI automatically catches the Localizer (ILS frequenzy).

You have to turn the OBS / course knob manually to center the CDI needle.  That is normal operation for VOR tuning.

If the VOR is part of your flightplan, and you are flying in GPS mode, the CDI needle will turn to the VOR direction when it becomes the next waypoint.
