New EVGA 3080TI Poor Performance with Prepar3d v5.3

Featured Replies

Hey guys! I decided to pull the trigger before inflation and shipping problems start driving the prices through the roof again. My specs are listed below and I fly GA into smaller airports so my needs are not as high as many others. I have been running on the 1080 TI for some time now and it was very smooth for me. With the New 3080 TI the scenery is very jerky during taxi as well as in the air. I also get the same results when panning around. This occurs with the same settings that I have used with the 1080 TI for a year or two now. I run at 30 FPS with vsync on and triple buffering target frame rate unlocked just as before changing GPU.

Here are the things that I have tried so far:

I installed the latest nvidia drivers...two times.
Cleared the .cfg and let system rebuild and the same for the shaders.
Lowered settings and tried different airports with same results.

Anyone else run into this problem? Suggestions? Can anyone  with similar system suggest another Driver. I am using the latest 512.77.

Wow I thought this would be simple LOL!! Got to love Flight Simming!

Could be due to a number of things.

Let's start simple: Is all traffic and 'Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation' turned off?

In Nvidia Control Panel, under 'Manage 3D settings', have you set 'Power management mode' to 'Prefer maximum performance'?

How are you limiting your FPS? Ensured that there are no clashes with FPS limiting?
Is your monitor able to do proper G-sync, G-sync compatible, or not at all? Have you selected the appropriate option in N.C.P? What setting in N.C.P. have you set 'Vertical sync': Off ,On, Fast, Adaptive, Half?

When installing the new driver, did you choose under installation options 'Custom (advanced)' and then check the 'Perform a clean installation' box? Have you allowed your system to reboot before starting P3D?

Lastly, and in the worst case scenario, your PC might not be well-balanced.
I know that the calc is based on using MSFS, however, a quick check on a PC bottleneck calculator shows that an i7-8086K leads to a significant bottleneck when paired with a 3080Ti.
It's very likely that your CPU just can't send enough data through to your GPU. The card receives lumpy flows of data and processes it too quickly to deliver smooth frames.
Under the Solutions tab on that linked website, you can see that recommended compatible CPU upgrades using the same LGA 1151 socket as your motherboard, include the i9-9900K and i9-9900KS.

If your motherboard has good VRM to support the extra unofficial power draw that i9 Coffee Lakes are renown for, you may be able to make a relatively cheap upgrade. Though, even these show more than the recommended 5% performance bottleneck.

I have a machine with an 8086K and a 2080Ti that is now a dedicated XPlane box.  As I recall, when I ran P3D on it, it had some small stuttering issues until I turned off HT in the BIOS.

As suggested above, you want a clean install of the driver after installing a new device, and after that you need to go through and check/reset all your application-specific settings, as the clean install will have set everything back to the driver defaults.

Make sure you have good connections on the GPU aux power cable connections, and no Y or daisy-chain cable ends--IOW there should be two separate cables running all the way from the PSU to the aux power connectors on the GPU, not one cable that splits into two connectors..

The usual stuff also applies...make sure nothing is updating in the background, file indexing isn't running etc.

Guy….thanks to you both for the responses. Less than an hour ago I stumbled across the error of my ways. I run a 4k tv @30hz and had forgot or over looked  NCP setting to limit to 30 FPS. lol…..it is kind of hard to, get a smooth pan with that or taxi with that thing trying to run at like 150 or 200 FPS. I still have to do some tuning and see what works best now. I think my 8086k will be ok for now because I only do GA into smaller strips and don’t do a lot of the big airports with animated flushing toilet bowls. LOL Thanks again!

Hello.
I had an Asus RTX 1080 Ti and I upgraded it to an RTX 3080. If I run Prepar 3D on a 24" IIlyamka I have 50 FPS. If I move the simulator to an IILyama 32" 4K (UHD) I have only 4 - 5 FPS left. Where and how can I adjust the settings to at least 30 FPS. When the RTX 1080Ti was still in the computer, I could effortlessly switch to the 4K monitor without losing FPS.

Does anyone have an idea?
