Maddog EFB MTOW confusion

Featured Replies

So I got the maddog as my first tubeliner for MSFS, its overall the third maddog I have from Leonardo and before I had their 2 Versions of the plane in FSX.
But this EFB thing is confusing me and I am not sure if it works as it should with the MSFS weight system.

The load manager that comes with the plane states 149500lbs as MTOW (i use lbs because thats what the sim uses as well). However, the EFB states 122319lbs as MTOW and tells me "takeoff not allowed" when I am above it. Therefore on a heavier take-off flight i am not able to get matching V-speeds.

I am also not really sure if MSFS properly updates my weights entered in the LM, as the figues provided by the LM/ Gross WT gauge in the cockpit are different from what the MSFS weight and balance setup shows. The fuel amount is roughly the same in both.

Did i overlook something or is this system not yet properly syncing?

The way Mickey D's performance works is that every takeoff considers max takeoff weight for the given conditions. This is how we calculate flex as well. As long as your actual weight is less than the max weight for the given runway and conditions, you can flex. It appears you are comparing the certified max weight to the max weight for a given runway and conditions. The EFB is giving you the max weight based on conditions.

OK this sounds extremely interesting. I found that out while trying to take off from Bogota btw, so elevation might be a factor.

O yeah, Bogota can be challenging with the high PA and temperatures alone. The high climb requirements due to the surrounding terrain can kill your performance as well. Flight sim addons don't really account for it, but you can if you have the proper charts. Even in the gulfstream 5/550, it can be a little bit of a challenge. At the end of the day, an aircraft can be runway length limited or climb gradient limited when it comes to weight.

I have the same issue at sea level so it's not a BOG/high altitude problem. I set up the weights in Simbrief and the Maddog load manager, and then import it into the EFB which tells me it's 5000kg over the MTOW. In fact the useable payload according to the EFB is 3000kg. Probably user error but I can't figure out the disconnect.

There are many other factors apart from the airport elevation that reduce the MTOW, e.g. runway length, temperature, baro pressure.

Also be sure to use the dedicated Maddog Simbrief profile on the right dropdown menu in Simbrief, not the generic MD-82 ("default").

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
