June 4, 20224 yr Above, 10,000 ft, good airspeed, briefly dive to max speed, pull up elevator and just can't seem to get over the loop. Goes vertically upwards, stalls - dive to recover...... Is there a trick to kick it over the top? Thanks
June 4, 20224 yr Maybe you are not pulling enough G's? That is an indicator when you stall in the vertical of a loop. For every airplane there is a sweet spot G-limit (and airspeed) associated with the loop. I flew a couple of loops in a real T6-Texan sometime ago and instructor was telling me to aim at 4Gs while shooting for roughly 170kts (185mph?) Airspeed at the top of loop can be critically low but that is fine since you should be at almost 0G and wings cannot stall if they are not generating any lift. June 4, 20224 yr Author Thanks for that. I managed to loop at 8,000 ft. 😁 https://www.dropbox.com/s/37edkwkyxvrbv61/Overtheloop.JPG?dl=0 180 Kts close to your 4g!!! Majic!!!
June 4, 20224 yr 250 knots and pulling about 4G is what you're aiming for to loop a Spitfire. This should get you a loop with a diameter of approximately 2,000 feet, with you coming over the top of that loop at somewhere around 95 knots. Less speed than that and you'll probably flop over the top of the loop and it won't look good. You can go a bit faster if you like, but with much more speed on the clock you'll end up with a massive diameter loop and might not even have the energy to make it all the way around cleanly because of the necessity to pull more G bleeding speed off.
