"Hurricane" Trashes Flight in Iran

IRL I had a 152 in slow flight and we had a wind that had picked up to the high 40's.  As we looked down over the main gear we could just see the ground slowly moving forward beneath it.  Yesterday, in the sim, the terrain was moving forward at quite a clip and it took a few seconds for my brain to realize what was happening.

A made another flight in the same region last night and all was normal.  Fingers crossed that they resolved this issue...

Hopefully it was a temporary glitch 🙂 I started my flight training in a 152. I would be absolutely terrified if I was on one of my first solo flights and started flying backwards.

Not a glitch in this case - we did this on purpose.  🙂

I was about 20 hours in on my training when we got these high winds - we were already airborne when the winds increased to that level.  My instructor asked me if I wanted to attempt flying backwards - I was game.

We turned into the wind, then he had me go into slow flight.  If we hadn't been in slow flight the winds wouldn't have overcome our forward motion,  I pulled power, brought the nose up to slow down then went to full flaps - as we approached stall, I added power to hold us in the 40's - backwards we went...

Man... In a way I would have liked to experience that. Sounds awesome - in a terrifying way! The biggest issue for me when doing my flight training down under was turbulence. I remember at least a few times when I had a "Better To Be On The Ground Wishing You Were In The Air Than Being In The Air And Wishing You Were On The Ground" moment. My poor passengers though - they were truly suffering 🤢

Toward the end of my RW flying days I took my bride-to-be up for an hour.  There was a nice little cross-wind that day, and I loved shooting cross-wind landings.  I took a flight all around the countryside first and she really enjoyed that.  Then, I went back to the field and shot about four T&G's.  I preferred the crab method, which meant I was swinging her in line at the last moment and putting her down on the up-wind wheel.  I had a ball!

As we taxied in I heard a retching sound and looked over to see my future wife with the dry heaves.  She never forgave me...  still married me though.

That's such a lovely story! Not so much for her though, but still. At times however I was unsure if you were speaking about your fiancé.. or the airplane, lol 😁

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. It's quite the story.

No problem - I did actually "laugh out loud" when I read your comment.

Here's an extra for you - my avatar is a shot from my bride-to-be's camera on that very day.  She took that shot as I was preparing for the flight - I treasure it as those images were the only pictures ever taken of me while flying or as PIC.
