Around San Antonio in the H135

Featured Replies

I got the new KSAT from IniScene. and rather like it, althought there aren't any detail shots of it here. I checked out the area generally before buying the airport (I like to see if I think I'm going to want to explore - no point in buying an airport for me if the surrounding area is rubbish) and was impressed with the quality of the scenery here. Not sure if that's down to using the Google Map replacement tool or not, but either way, it works for me.

So a few shots on the way to, and around, downtown. Any sharp eyed viewers might notice that the livery (Broward County) is way out of place, but I didn't have anything local and I liked the look of it.

I notice on LNM there is a small strip called "Bat Cave Strip" over the other side of town - I'll definitely have to go and check that out!

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

FYI - The name of that strip is literal - it's next door to the worlds largest bat colony:

Each year in the fall, you can buy tickets to sit in a little mini-theater of sorts near the cave to watch over 15 million bats take flight at dusk. Fortunately they don't fly very high, or else this would be one heck of a flight hazard for that airstrip. The aerial shot at 2:13 below is stunning.

The level of detail on the scenery is pretty amazing. They captured the soul crushing 1970's blandness of the airport perfectly. Believe it or not, Terminal B (shown below) was constructed in 2010 - but they somehow managed to make it look 40 years old and outdated on the day that it opened.

Seriously though - I practically live at this airport, and the details are so exact (e.g. the signs, the pattern of the linoleum floor, etc..) that I'm having PTSD.

Update: I am seriously considering spending $20 on the virtual version of a place that I would gladly pay $20 NOT to go to in the real world and it seems like a rational decision to me. I am re-evaluating the life choices that brought me to this moment.

Hah! I know that feeling. I spend all my "pocket money" on addons for this sim, bought literally hundreds of airports. But wild horses couldn't get me back to any airport in real life. Had twenty years of frequent coach class and that's enough for at least a couple more lifetimes as far as I'm concerned. But in the sim, that's another matter. One of the things I enjoy most is discovering things like this bat cave. MSFS is full of such treats. And thanks hugely for the video - magic stuff. I like bats (and rats and pussy cats - basically most life forms except for the two-legged ones) and this was a treasure to watch.

Excellent shots Andy , I was intrigued by that air strip : http://www.airnav.com/airport/TS55

Cheers John, and thanks to @enright I will definitely be going back to see if the cave is visible. Who knows, maybe they even modelled the bats - doubt it, but wouldn't that be something?
