Unfair to Aerosoft CRJ

Featured Replies

I have complained about and put the Aerosoft CRJ in the hanger for a long time shortly after purchasing it upon release.  Now I have better tools including the Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo plus the X-touch mini.  I made it a goal to get most of the important functions readily available as the glareshield and other bits are difficult to use for a single pilot using monitors.  Mission accomplished.

After reading instructions and viewing a few videos, I gave it a go once again.  It took a few trials and OS moments to get this thing right.  Now it is not going to win any contests making turns from the route programmed into the FMS(C) but it will finally settle on course.  The vertical nav built into it is not the same as Boeing and Airbus but does get the job done nicely with proper throttle management that is not as difficult as originally predicted.

By gosh, I really have grown fond of the aircraft over the past week or so.  It flies pretty darn well, looks good and lands like a dream either autoland or manually.  As a longtime PMDG customer and now a Fenix customer, for my money, the Aerosoft CRJ was a solid purchase after all.  Maybe Aerosoft will update some bit or maybe not.  If they do, that's good and if not, then it is quite flyable as is when you aware of and control the quirks.

Excuse me now, its time to set up another flight.  😁

While it may not be absolutely flawless, it certainly isn't a bad little plane. I enjoy mine, too. Aerosoft gets a lot of flak sometimes (and sometimes, deservedly so) but the CRJ really isn't that bad. But the bar for quality definitely has been raised by the freeware FBW product, and payware will need to keep in mind that the standard is going up all the time.

Intel Core i7 8700k clocked to 4.6GHz, GTX1080Ti, 32GB DDR4 RAM, MSFS installed on NVMe drive, Windows 11, Dell 27" 60Hz Monitor + Dell 24" 60Hz Monitor. Resolution 1920x1080. Game Mode on, GPU scheduling enabled (Win11). MSFS settings: High-End for airlines, Ultra for GA.

I like that you have to actually fly the plane and pay attention to airspeed, pitch and throttle.  From everything I have seen real CRJ pilots say its spot on.  There was a filbertflies episode where the real pilot said sometimes the real jet struggles with ILS approaches.
