AMD FSR 2.1 released

Featured Replies

First we need to have it in MSFS, to my current understanding it's coming in SU11 / 40th anniversary.

From what I've seen in the DLSS discussions about the SU10 beta, the rendering of text gets quite blurry, and it seems to be due to the way these image scaling solutions work. They basically render at a lower resolution and then scale it up using some smart algorithm (AI in the case of DLSS), which works well in some situations, not so well in others. We'll have to see...

Anyway, would be good to have FSR 2.1 implemented soon in MSFS, although the extent of fps gains may vary a lot, due to MSFS being much more CPU limited than most games.

SU10 will have an AMD FidelityFX sharpening slider.

It's not so much blurry text per se, but blurry speedtape and similar moving numbers in glass cockpits. IMO the sharpness/antialiasing with DLSS is on par with, if not better than TAA. And the speedtape ghosting is better in the latest beta update.

Ok, FidelityFX sharpening is useful, but this has nothing to do with FSR. FidelityFX is a toolkit provided by AMD with various open-source tools for postprocessing and other real-time image processing, such as a good sharpening algorithm, and FSR as an upscaler with a similar scope as DLSS, but without AI (as of yet). So far only the sharpening is used in MSFS, FSR has been promised for a future update, SU11 if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the info! Is it only the speedtape, or other things on the screens too?

Thanks, I’ll admit I don’t know much/anything about FSR.

Quickly moving text/numbers are affected in glass cockpits e.g. speed, altitude and heading in the Garmin G1000. Everything else looks great IMO, and I’ve been on DLSS for nearly two months now, and tried many different aircraft with glass cockpits.

Ah, I see. So it's not the resolution upscaling itself. Maybe this can be improved in the future then.
