Altimeter issues

Featured Replies

When climbing to set altitude in the 750GTNXi model the steam gauge altimeters were lagging by several thousand feet ( 14000 set read out 2500). Would climb to set alttitude sometimes or stop at the erroneous altitude indicated in analog steam gauge. The AC would eventually make it to correct set altitude set on digital altitude setting. Otherwise this is most awesome piston twin. Had a addon livery Cape Air livery.

First thing I would try is using a default livery. Some addon liveries have caused strange problems. Also which version of the plane are you using ( which GPS ), and is this a PC or X-box install?

It's the PC version using the TDS version Garmin 750. It is the latest version also.I will try the default ac next time. It was also the first launch after installing it. I always have issues with first time launch of anything whether scenery  or new version of pmdg.

Still issue with steam altimeter gauge lagging by several thousand feet. Cruising at 13K with altimeter reading 4000 feet. The altitude read out on the Garmin is accurate though so doing a flight from Key West to Miami executive was doable. I'll try the non 750 version next. Flew the default cessna 172 to make sure the altimeter was okay and it was.

Check that you don't have the sim in metric units. If the copilot's altitude gauge is about right and the pilot's is still way off, chances are you have the sim set to metric units. Only the pilot's altimeter can be changed to metric units, and 4000 meters is about 13123 ft. The sim units setting is under Options > General Options > Misc > Units of Measurement.

That was the problem. It was on metric for some reason. Never had an issue with other AC though. Thanks, now I can fly this thing.

Not all altimeters are set up to work with both English and Metric units, for example the co-pilots altimeter in the C414 works strictly in ft since it uses a physical dial to set the altimeter setting. The pilot's altimeter, on the other hand, has a "digital" Kohlsman window and so can be switched between inHg (for altitude in ft) and millibars (for altitude in meters).
