Intel vs AMD? 5600 vs 12400?

Recommended Posts

I have decided that FOR ME this is the best time to abandon my old Z97 platform and invest in something much newer. I don't want to spend a lot of money (also, honestly, as long as the system guarantees 30FPS in MSFS and Prepar3D for me is enough).

I'm keeping the old 1070 for now but I'm thinking of buying a 3060Ti or equivalent in the future. Oh, and I have a 1440p ultrawide but I usually use P3D in windowed mode. I imagine it will be the same in the future when (and if) I migrate to MSFS.

I don't want to wait for DDR5, new platforms or new graphics cards!

So I was thinking about these two systems:

A

Intel I5 12400

MSI PRO B660-A motherboard

New aircooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition)

Kingston 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz FURY Renegade CL16 Black

Or B

AMD 5600 (non X)

MSI PRO B550-A motherboad

SAME aircooler from Z97 platform, the BeQuiet Dark Rock 3

Kingston 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz FURY Renegade CL16 Black

What do you think? Which one should I choose?

12400F - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - 1440p G-Sync UltraWide - Sennheiser GSX 1000 - O11 Air Mini - 1TB NVMe + 2TB SSD - Windows 11 Pro - Prepar3D 5.4 and MSFS

Well if you don’t want to wait until next Tuesday for the new range of AMD CPUs I’d happily recommend the 5600. I’ve got the 58003DX and before that had the 5800X.  That was my first time with AMD after years with Intel and I’m happy.

I don't do streaming or video editing or more complex things on the computer, just flightsims and other games.

Why not 12400F instead of 12400 ? Less expensive and why pay for built in graphics when you got a dedicated video card ?
Why new air cooler ? These CPU comes with a cooler.

I'll see if I can resist the noise from the stock Intel cooler.

I'll also buy the 12400F, you're right 😉
