C172 Autopilot

Featured Replies

Let me start by saying I have had no problem with the C172 autopilot for the last 2 years, but now suddenly it won't follow a course to the VOR or intercept an ILS or glideslope.

So I'm roughly at the correct heading and altitude to intercept the ILS and glideslope from slilghtly below with the correct frequency set on the Garmin 530 with VLOC set with autopilot set to APR and nothing happens. The same when it is set to NAV.

I've cleared my community folder in case something there was interfering but still the same issue. Have there been any changes in the operation of the autopilot/Garmin 530 or is there a bug since SU10?

Anyone had this problem or suggest any solutions or actions I should take?

Thanks

The WT G1000NXI simulates the "armed" mode of NAV functions, it's the default GA glass suit starting with SU10, not sure if that impacts GNS530 operation though. With the WT G1000 NXI you have to arrange an intercept yourself, before a NAV mode will go from armed to active. Your post indicates that's what you're doing, but I wonder if your intercept angles are too acute, it has to be fairly shallow (perhaps under 30 degrees?)

Thanks for your input Ckyliu.  I normally intercept at around 30° and never more than 45°.  Not sure what is going on.

Edit: It looks like the buttons above NAV 1 are lit on GPS which may explain. I hit nav and that now seems to be tracking the VOR.  I've never needed to touch those buttons before though.
