Honeycomb Bravo and MSFS - Light and switch nightmare!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

With this being such a common device, I'm hoping the AVSIM community can give me a bit more of a broad perspective than Fenix support has on this, because they are focused on their airplane and I'm becoming increasingly convinced it has nothing to do with them, more the sim.

I'm using SPAD to map my control assignments, and have assigned bindings for all the lights to the switch panel above the throttles. They'll move the switches, sure, but the lights will usually not work. No beacon, no strobes, sometimes the effects will pop in and then disappear. I was never able to get the strobes working.

Plot twist - flew in the C700, and the lights would be totally off. Flip the landing lights on, turns off the recog light. Flip the strobes on, nav lights off. Eventually you can flip switches up and down to get your ideal desired light situation, but it's ugly.

Flash forward to the King Air - now I can't turn on pitot heat. The profile has a switch for pitot heat, but when you flip it, it controls the avionics master! Tried to turn it on via the switch in the VC, won't move.

TLDR - MSFS appears to use the hardware switch settings to override a switch in the VC, and it's using what it thinks are the hardware outputs and not displaying effects.

Does anyone else have this behavior? I am at a loss as to the fix. I would love to ask Honeycomb, but let's be honest, it's not like we got a decent software suite out of them.

*Edit: Seeing I posted this in the wrong spot, can someone move it?

Did you remove all the default assignments in the MSFS control profiles? They will interfere with your spad settings.

And what commands do you use for e.g. pitot heat? You cannot use a _toggle command since the switches on the Bravo are not toggle switches. You must assign one side of the switch for pitot heat ON and the other for OFF.

That is certainly a common mistake people make with the Bravo and I had issues until I leaned that. I don't use SPAD though.

@mspencer I don't know if this will be of any help, and maybe you have already set things correctly, but 'Rmag' on Youtube has some helpful setup tutorials for the Bravo, including this one for the switches.

There are some occasions where you only have toggle commands available in which case you need to add a Condition to the switch command in Spad to check if the toggle operation needs to be fired.
