December 23, 20223 yr Duluth, in addition to being the birthplace of world music icon Bob Dylan, is a major port on the western coast of Lake Superior where massive cargo arrives to load, mainly pellets, coal and iron. This port is also the most inland in the world given that, thanks to the fluvial systems connecting the North American and Canadian lakes, it is connected to the Atlantic Ocean with a distance of about 3700 km. In winter, polar temperatures are far from rare, causing large areas of Lake Superior to freeze, with the interruption, generally between January and early March, of navigation. This video shows the spectacular arrival of the -30C (-22F) American Century, a 305m long and 32m wide freighter which, through the canal, enters the enormous dock of the port of Duluth with the elevation of a bridge. In this video, there is also to note another characteristic of several people who love to see these greats arrive and leave cargo despite the polar temperatures, obviously in better weather conditions they are much more numerous, both to take videos and photos but also to say hello, reciprocate, the crews. Finally, there is to... hear how each cargo has recognition whistles that are reciprocated by the ground during the passage in the channel. Video with audio of the arrival of the American Century freighter yesterday : https://youtu.be/0mRtMwOH_MY Link of one of the many live webcams, and in this case it refers to the Duluth channel that enters the port. Currently, at the Duluth apt -22 °C are recorded https://youtu.be/9k_sg8rhsgk

December 23, 20223 yr Pretty 'chilling.' Reminds me of a weekend TDY trip to Bozeman Montana where it was -30F when we landed. Went to the rental car desk and we were given a car. The engine was already running. The rental car guy gave us the second key so we could lock the doors and he warned us not to turn off the engine for any reason. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
