December 25, 20223 yr Hi, I have following setup: 2 TB with 5150MB/s, 1TB 3500MB/s and 500GB normal SSD. How would you split these? I use the 500 GB SSD as storage for personal stuff, and documents etc... I thought I could use the 1 TB for photos / videos and the 2TB for Windows, applications and MSFS. But how should I split this? Everything into C or should I partition it? Besides MSFS I use the computer for otherstuff too but cannot say how much space I would need in the long term, I don't want to be limited. Does it have any sigificant advantages to install MSFS on C: and allocate for instance Community Folder into D:?
December 25, 20223 yr I have done a split installation, with the official and community folders on a separate drive. I believe that this is the preferred method if one wants to participate in the open beta program. See https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/beta-testers-new-information-on-joining-leaving-the-beta/543728 for more information, particularly the following Quote We recommend that those who wish to test with us ensure your sim content is located in a custom path before joining the flight to avoid full reinstallations in the future (Details on how to do this can be found here 280). The best set up would be for your store app to live on the default 😄 drive and sim content on a custom drive. Hope this helps. December 25, 20223 yr I would use the 1TB for Windows and your photo's and video's and the 2TB for Flightsim. After two years, my MSFS including addons takes up more than 1.2TB and it still increasing. If you do use the 2TB for both Windows and MSFS, make sure you install MSFS in a custom location. That way you can move the bulk more easily to another drive later. I don't recommend splitting (as in partitioning) drives since it has no technical advantage and it will give you headaches when you find that one partition filles up while there is plenty of space on the other. If you want to feel organised there are more flexible options. Since I use game pass, one of the sides say: Quote Note: I cannot confirm that this method will also protect those who are using gamepass. I have heard of cases where this custom folder is also wiped during an un-install. If using gamepass it is a good idea to have a completely separate back up independent of any folders used by or linked to by MSFS- a separate hard drive is recommended. 10 minutes ago, orchestra_nl said: I would use the 1TB for Windows and your photo's and video's and the 2TB for Flightsim. Maybe a compromise: Installing Windows and MSFS on 2TB at one partitions with MSFS on custom location like C:/MSFS and the 1TB only as storage for videos/photos. Would that be headache free option? At least I would have more speed that I don't need for videos and photos. But then again: if I have to reinstall windows, I would need to reinstall MSFS, too. With two partitions on the 2TB I could easily avoid reinstalling msfs. Edited December 25, 20223 yr by 737_800

With two partitions on the 2TB I could easily avoid reinstalling msfs. Extra speed does benefit both Windows and MSFS so that is a valid argument. Installing MSFS in C:\MSFS is the best choice then. It's a nice short path which is also very practical. December 26, 20223 yr KISS method always: all on one drive, everything: OS, MSFS, Addons, etc etc Never an issue, simple to clone the entire drive to another like kind drive which I do.
