Good afternoon.

15 years ago i used to play FS9 for couple of years. But now 15 years later i want to try it again and i dont have to space in my house to set up a pc anywhere i want to buy a Game laptop and i want to play Flightsim sometimes because i dont have to time to do it everyday so i dont want to go above a budget of €1000 euros. So i saw a laptop its called the MSI Katana GF66 11UC-813NL - Gaming Laptop - 15.6 inch - 144 Hz.

Here are the specs.

There's a lot of "upto" and "max" listed on that link, but Googling the model code elsewhere the spec appears to be:

  • 8 GB RAM which isn't enough, you want at least 16 GB and ideally 24 GB for MFS imo
  • 512 GB SSD is rather small, a base MFS install will use up almost half of that before addons. I think you want at least 1 TB of storage if you plan on running any other apps!
  • Graphics card and processor are okay, they will run MFS at 30 fps with mid settings on the 1080p resolution of the integral screen, I expect. Ideally you would want more graphics memory than the RTX3050 offers as 4 GB GDDR6 is really at the thin end.

Are you are probably aware, gaming on a laptop is always a compromise and you will get better value with a desktop system. €1000 is a relatively tight budget for a gaming desktop, so on a laptop it's even more stretched.

The GF66 would be fine though up the ram to at least 16 and preferably 32. 2TB M.2 drives are now cheap so it might make sense to install one of those and you should be good for quite some time. Get a laptop cooling pad/fan or at the very least a couple of 1"x2" pieces of would to place under it for better cooling. Mine did fry the 1070 about 3.5 years into owning it but luckily I bought a 4 year warranty and it was replaced at no charge. I used a laptop exclusively from 2001-2016 as I was away 4+ months of the year for work and my last had a I7-8500, 1070 video, 16 gig ram, 2 1TB M.2 and a 2TB SSD. It worked well though I had to experiment with settings and when home would plug it into a 34" Dell Ultrasharp. Still got this laptop and in the process of upping the ram to 32 to have the machine as a backup. If the price is right to you I think you'd be fine.
