Missing mercator and open Maps

Recommended Posts

Apologies - placed this on wrong forum

2 days ago, I placed the following request and just realized that I didn't mention the fact that my problem was in Little Map

""I have just loaded the new upgrade - and learning the new bits - very good

However - I just cannot find how - or where - to install the extra maps / google satellite etc that used

to be on the top lines i.e, Mercator and Open Street maps""

from the readMe:

These is a modified set of the Google maps provided by Victor 'bina' Quebec.

It fixes the issue where map labels appear in random languages on the Google maps.

Overwrite the installed maps with the attached files and clear the map cache.
The cached map tiles are stored in
Windows: C:\Users\YOURLOGINNAME\AppData\Local\.marble\data\maps\earth\google-...
Linux: /home/YOURLOGINNAME/.local/share/marble/maps/earth/google-...
macOS: /Users/YOURLOGINNAME/.local/share/marble/maps/earth/google-...
Simply remove all google-... folders there.

After installing the maps and clearing the cache all labels should show in English.

Alex

Original comment by Victor below:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The zip-file includes the following 12 (twelve) custom maps for Little Navmap® by Alexander Barthel:

# Google Maps (Default)
# Google Maps (Satellite)
# Google Maps (Terrain)
# U.S. VFR Sectionals
# U.S. IFR Enroute Low
# U.S. IFR Enroute High
# U.S. IFR Area Charts
# U.S. Terminal Area Charts (TAC)
# U.S. Helicopter Route Charts
# Norway Topographic Maps
# Sweden Topographic Maps
# Finland Topographic Maps

To use the maps:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1- make sure Little Navmap® is closed
2- drop the 'data' folder inside the zip-file into the root Little Navmap® folder, overwrite when asked.
3- run Little Navmap® and select one of the above maps from the drop-down menu 'Select map theme' located at the top right corner above the Map window. All custom maps are prefixed by an asterisk (*) symbol.
Note: Only the Google Maps cover the whole world; the areas not covered by the rest of the maps will be grayed out.
To uninstall the maps:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1- make sure Little Navmap® is closed
2- go to 'data/maps/earth' folder inside the root Little Navmap® folder
3- delete the respective map folder completely. E.g. 'finland-topo'
4- restart Little Navmap®

Disclaimer: All map data is provided free of charge and publicly accessible.

Enjoy!

Download from here

and reinstall into the new LNM installation folder. The map folders "google-maps-..." have to be copied aside the "openstreetmap" and the "opentopomap" folders.
