Problems with MCE and XPlane12

Featured Replies

Dear Community,

I bought MCE for Xplane 12 and got my registration.txt and the .lic file after registering and activating the product and put it in the specified folder. After activating I could use the product without issues. I just started it once to play around and then closed it again. When I now start X-Plane 12 the plugin is grayed out - and if I start it manually by clicking on the dekstop icon, it is unable to find a running X-Plane installation. I had this prior to activating it but everything worked after I got my registration.txt and license file.

Could it be that there is a problem with the registration - has it been reset? Also I now get a popup that says "no voice pack installed" using "default voice" - what I did was I changed the voices in the select voices menu to my liking to other TTS voices but I did not de-install anything.

Did anyone have to deal with similiar problems and how did you guys fix it?

Welcome aboard Timo

it's not a registration issue. When it's the case, Fo will refuse to perform actions and you would see a <Copy> button next to machine ID in "About" tab of the UI.

I suggest you restore MCE to factory settings.

Windows Start->Multi Crew X-Plane->Restore factory settings.

Next time you atrt MCE, a different app (the wizard) will run instead. No need for speech training if you already performed that earlier.

That will give you a default config file with default settings (including the voices that are expected initially).

Feel free to download and install more recorded voices. 10 co-pilots to choose from (some already come with the Demo. Check before you download).

Dear Gerald,

I tried as suggested an ran the wizard again I can start the plugin now in X-Plane12 - and I also hear a voice that says "ok" and chatter at the very beginning. I cannot see the settings when I click on the settings entry and the plugin does not connect to X-Plane12. I will try to start X-Plane in admin mode later today - changing to run MCE in admin mode did not change anything.

For better stability of the sim, MCE runs as an external process (xpmce.exe). That's where speech reco, program logic, audio play take place.

For the connection to the sim to happen, our "xpInsider64.xpl" plugin needs to load in X-Plane.

make sure the installer added that file to \X-Plane\Resources\Plugins\ folder as well as "xpInsider.cfg"

If missing, manually copy them from the downloaded unzipped file and paste them to that location.

MCE is compiled to always run as admin.

If you install it to default path (C:\Program Files (x86)\Multi Crew X-Plane\), it will be able to connect to any running X-Plane installation even if the latter is not run as admin and installed anywhere.

As a veteran of MCE in P3D for years without issue, I was excited to purchase 1.6.4.6 for X-Plane 12.

Installation says installed successfully.

Ran App Wizard

Problem. The start screen starts up with the voices but no farther.

Re installed several times with same results.

Installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Multi Crew X-Plane"

xplinsider, xplinsider32, and xplinsider64 installed in "D:\X-Plane 12\Resources\plugins"

Would appreciate any guidance ti be able to enjoy MCE in X-Plane 12

Could be anti-virus not liking "xpwiz.exe".(the wizard)

Check it hasn't been moved to the vault. Check the same hasn't been done to "xpmce.exe"

Eventually, restore MCE to factory settings

Windows Start->Multi CrewX-Plane->Restore factyory settings (make sure you don't restore MCE for MSFS, Pepar3D, FSX by accident)

Thank you for getting back so quickly.

Same results

Check wpwiz.exe and xpmce.exe. Neither had been moved to the vault. Neither were in quarantine.

Restored to factory settings.

Ran wizard.

Restarted with AV off.

Run the "xpwiz.exe" found in your other installation for P3D.

If successful, copy that file and replace the one in \Multi Crew X-Plane\ folder.

Try running it from that folder.

Uninstalled 1.6.4.6 for X-Plane 12,

Reinstalled

Confirmed xpwiz.exe in P3d. Rreplaced the one in \Multi Crew X-Plane\ folder and ran it.

Same results.

Did you by any chance override folders permissions for \Multi Cew X-Plane\ folder?

If "xpwiz.exe" can run from \Multi Crew Experience\ folder, there should be no reason the same file wouldn't run from the other location.

Since among other things, the wizard detects joysticks and audio devices, I suggest you disconnect all joysticks and if you have other multi-media devices other than the headset, unplug them and try running the wizard again.

Success! Thank you for your help.

David

FYI: I never fooled with folder permissions, so it must have been disconnecting the devices you suggested.

Again, thanks

David

Gerald

So much for success.

MCE only worked once and since then it has reverted back to start screen on until it says it can't connect.

Some observations:

I do your procedures above each time before I start X-Plane

The Kill option in the plugin menus has no effect.

When the can't connect message comes on, it is followed by message saying since this is the first time must do wiz. even though I do it before starting up X-Plane each time.

Very frustrating. Probably for you also.

Won't spend any more time on this unless you have any other ideas.

David
