Co-Pilot nagging and few other questions

Recommended Posts

Just want to say that I am having a blast and really enjoying the program, few minor things that bug me and would like some help maybe in learning.

1. So, I was doing a manual departure and the co-pilot kept on nagging about my altitude speed and this and that, which he really was totally out of way, because he really has no idea what I am doing, meaning he is not aware of SID that I am following so why the remarks about keeping it on heading and so on, is there a way to shut him up LOL.

However I still want him to monitor things like crossing 10K, 1000 to go, reaching transition altitude these are all helpful and nice so I do not want to turn off monitoring since I think I would loose these. Just really not sure where he gets the info and complains during my SID, as he has no clue I think as to what I am suppose to do so why the comments.

2. I read some people talking about SIMBRIEF with MCE.. ? How is that done I cannot see any Simbrief options in my MCE, I have MSFS version of MCE, i think version says 3.0.12 if I recall.

3. while making and using checklists I noticed that co-pilot does verify some items while not others. Is there a list of what (items/phrases) i can put in checklist file that he will be able to actually verify and tell me "...are you sure? please check again..." or something like that what he does when the item in question is in the wrong state according for the checklist. Some items I noticed he will change himself, for example

FO says -strobe lights

I respond - ON (they are actually off)

FO (thinks for a moment turns them ON and say - now they are ON

but if I said OFF even though it CHKLIst they marked should be ON, I think he would not turn them ON, I am still learning so just trying to get a grip at it if there are some rules for this usage.

4. small bug (maybe) I was using some VOXkey, making commands mostly put in phonetic alphabet so i can type in VR (works pretty good) and also number so I can use it to control GSX without a mouse, nothing to control the aircraft itself really you guys have it done pretty well,

anyhow, when I am making a new command it does not appear on the list after saving it, I will have to make two more for the one I made two before to show up.. ok this is confusing, lets say I made 10 command when i look though the list in VOX key I only see commands 1-8.. I do not see 9 and 10.. but when I make command 11 I will now see 1-9, but not 10 and 11, when I make command 12 i will see on the list 1-10, but not 11 and 12... and so on, last two that I made are not shown, but if I tried to make one of the next two that were already made and save it would tell me that this command already exists and i cannot duplicate it, so it knows just doesn't seem to show these last two added

hopefully I am explaining it right, not too confusing.

Thanks

Sure, the nagging is a separate option from the "Call-outs and monitoring" feature. Disable "Enable nagging" option in "Advanced options" panel. Very few use that option as it fits some usage scenarios and not others. And it hasn't been worked on for years precisely because few people seem to need it.

2. I read some people talking about SIMBRIEF with MCE.. ? How is that done I cannot see any Simbrief options in my MCE, I have MSFS version of MCE, i think version says 3.0.12 if I recall.

Go to "ATC" tab in MCE UI and click <Show flight plan>.

You'll get a prompt whether you want MCE to fetch the latest filed Simbrief FPLN.

Supply your Simbrief ID ( a number, not your login name) and if succssful, MCE will save the ID for future automatic FPLN fetching.

Assuming it managed to downoad the flight plan, you should see a "Simbrief_fpln.dat" file appear in \My Documents\Multi Crew Experience\ folder.

Because the file is huge, it is parsed to extract the relevant info which is split into multiple files. One for weather, another for Notams etc..

See screenshots for what to expect when the featuyre works as expected.

http://www.multicrewxp.com/Screenshots.html

Note: Recently, Simbrief changed the way they include Notams in the file. As a result it broke the interface. It is fixed in MCE Ultimate V3.0.2.7 Demo.

Will be fixed for other products this week and gradually, starting with MSFS edition. We should have new package uploaded either today evening or tomorrow.

3. while making and using checklists I noticed that co-pilot does verify some items while not others. If the reply might be ON, Auto  or OFF, use "as required"

[ ] strobe lights -- as required.

That way, if you respond ON, he will check it's ON and if you say OFF, he verifies it's as you stated.

In general FO looks at keywords on the left part of the line to identify things to check, when the expected settings is on, off, auto, as required or some other setting like TARA.

If the expected answer on the right side of the line is "check" or other similar variations, he won't bother to check.

If your airline checklist expects you to say something that includes listing a few numbers and such, use the '_' underscore character

[ ] MCP V speeds  --      _

MCE will then switch the speech engine to dicatation mode, which isn't as reliable as "command and control". Don't expect the speech engine to pick-up exactly what you said though. But it doesn't matter as FO won't challenge you on this.

Use //2 marker on a line where the Fo is expected to handle the item without waiting for your answer

[ ] spoilers   -- disarmed //2

Use //3 for items where both you and Fo are expected to reply

Since custom checklist are unpredictable in nature, eventually, send your custom checklist to support and we'll make sure Fo can handle it entirely and accurately.

Could be a bug in Voxkey. Will be looked at.

Meanwhile, open "FS2020.vkp" profile (found in \My documents\Voxkey\ folder) using "Notepad" only and if you see a blank line between successive commands, manually remove it and see if the commands are all listed after that.

At some point we'll have full integration with GSX, just as it's the case in Prepar3D & FSX.

hopefully I am explaining it right, not too confusing.

It's clear enough. Just to add, and I'm writing this for others who may not know about this...

If you want to check the level of awareness Fo has on your flight at any time, try this...

Go to "advanced options" panel and click <View config>.

"mce.ini" file will display in Notepad.

Set "PilotISBVI=1" to simulate usage scenario for a totally blind pilot who needs to receive feedback about as many things happening in the sim as possible.

Also, right-click anywhere in MCE UI and select option "Use screen narrator" in drop-down menu.

You'll then get a barrage of audio feedback regarding what flight phase the Fo thinks he's in,

Fly manually and tell co-pilot "read instruments aloud" and you'll hear a TTS vocie comment on all sorts of flight parameres, pitch xxx, accelerating, climbing, descending, turning right etc...

You'll also be notified when new options appear in ATC menu and if you want him to check, ask "confirm ATC options".

Obviously not meant for a regular pilot, therefore reverse the settinsg when you've heard enough.🙂

Thanks

You're welcome.

Great, thanks for the answers, lots to learn to fully enjoy what MCE has to offer !

I will try turning off the nagging see if that helps. I though it might have been somehow tight up with options in Monitoring section which I would like to stay on.

//2 and //3 great suggestions.

HOW do I update? is 3.0.12 the most recent version? I use the MCE MSFS Edition version, I see there is a V3.0.2.7 for MSFS, Prepar3D, FSX released  But that is for all the sims, I only use MSFS is this right from me too ?

Thanks

correction my MCE is version 3.0.21

A new package (V3.0.2.7) has just been uploaded to Simmarket.

The MSFS edition is now on a par with Ultimate Edition Demo. The only difference, MSFS edition won't connect or support airplanes in Prepar3D, FSX or FS9.

Typically new features and tweaks are made to Ultimate Edition first (because it has a larger user base and existing users can help us squash the inevitable bugs by providing feedback, and when we deem it OK to roll them out to other products we do that a few weeks later.
