One American versus 250 Enemy Soldiers

Recommended Posts

I have never learned much about Audie Murphy until having watched this video biography. What is most surprising however, is that he was barely twenty years old when he was awarded the MOH, and had gone from Private to 2nd LT in that short period of time.

Completing the "airplane" theme, in 1971 he was killed along with five others in a tragic CFIT event of a Turbo Commander while enroute to Martinsville, Virgina. He was only 45 years old.

In line with his basic humility, he requested that his headstone text remain black like most all of the other buried soldiers, instead of the gold lettering the MOH entitled him to have.
