P3D v5.4 night light question

Featured Replies

Tonight I installed Sunskyjets' Philadelphia scenery. I also installed inibuilds dynamic lighting for the scenery. The instructions for the dynamic lighting say to open up the P3D cfg file and change

MAX_POINT_LIGHTS=250

MAX_SPOT_LIGHTS=250

to

MAX_POINT_LIGHTS=1000

MAX_SPOT_LIGHTS=1000

I made the change, but I don't think I noticed any difference. What do those two entries do to the night lighting? What differences am I looking for in the sim?

P3D has an build in limit how many spotlight's it can show at the same time. At huge airports, you won't get dynamic light or even light at all if the currently loaded scenery contains more spotlight's above the threshold you define with this value, so 500 or 1000 in your case.

I only had this once at FB's Denver scenery.

This value is mainly a performance constraint, but you should have no problem runnig it at 1000.

Thank you. I think I understand now.

I was thinking of trying this add-on for lighting in P3D called "3D Lights P3D".  It enhances night lighting for the entire world and it works with a lot of different sceneries including Orbx, photoscenery and cityscape type sceneries which I collect.  It's really worth checking out.  I emailed the developer to inquire about the product and he seems like a really good guy and on simmarket it has really great reviews.  Here's the link if you want to check it out:

Edit: Whoops I gave the wrong link, that link is the original version.  Here's the link to version 2 which has even better lighting than the original:

As well as installing the specific DL file from Inibulilds for KPHL and adjusting the P3D config file, did you install the Inibuilds DL Library as well? All three are required to be installed for the lights to work correctly.

Yes, I downloaded and installed the dynamic light library, The dynamic lights are working correctly at the airport, my thing was that when I changed the two cfg entries I did not see a difference between 250 and 1000.

That's what I was explaining... 😐
You only notice it when you get no dynamic lightning bc your scenery exceeds the Max spotlight's value.
