Turns out my right hand still remenbers how to fly!

Featured Replies

After all the years fly with almost exclusively on left hand, I just bought the right hand grip, and it turns out my right hand flys almost as good as left hand anyway!

I'm right handed in daily life, and started my sim flight on right hand joystick like most people, but from like 10 years ago, starting with Siatek cyborg 3d, I mostly use left hand as it's for the "Captain seat".

After that, one of my most important parameter for buying joystick is if it supports left hand, so I never got some popular things like X45,X52, cougar, warthog etc etc....I went Saitek Force 3D, EVO, then T16000, all ambidextral, so I still occasionally fly F16 or Helicopters on right hand. I have compared back then, my left hand actually lacks some precision compare to right hand.

Then I went VKB SCG-L about 4 years ago, the only left hand grip I can find with much better metal mechanism, that effectively locked to my left hand, F16? Bf109? Bell206? all on my left hand!

Today I finally get the right hand grip for the VKB base, Tried BMS and IL2 and XPlane all the day and I find to my surprise, My right hand can still fly as good as my left hand. (but no longer better)

Sure I got problem when try to find the parking brake and speedbrake lever with right hand multiple times! (btw I use TCA airbus TQ). but as long as I keep my hands on, It really doesn't feel quite different, much smoother than the first time I try to force myself fly on left hand.

As you may see all my other controls, gear, MCP, MCDU,EFB and mouse are all built on my right side, that's quite headache and they can't be move as easily as the stick and throttle,  I think for airliner and most GA I'd still use my left hand, but I'll switch the grip for fighters and helos for now on!

I have always used a right hand stick.  I'm what they call semi-ambidextrous.  I write with my right hand but throw a ball with my left hand.  I can eat with either hand but usually use my left.

The right hand stick and left hand throttle (Saitek X-52) are what I have been using ever since it came out.

Most of us who came to Earth from the Gamma Quadrant are semi-ambidextrous.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.
