Saving the OZx Grumman Goose

Featured Replies

I've had a copy of this wonderful airplane, the OZx Grumman Goose Redux HD, for a long time and it is always been one of my favorite classic FSX freeware aircraft.  I've always had a fascination with the FSX Goose ever since I started using FSX many years ago and I know I'm not the only one that is or was attached to it.  I have the OZx version currently installed in P3Dv5.4 and it still works, and I wouldn't be surprised if it works in P3Dv6 either.

The last known link to download it from has been dead for about a year or so now.  It was on some file sharing site here: https://www.lockonfiles.com/  I did some research and found out the founder/creator of LockOnFiles passed away a couple years back.  https://stormbirds.blog/2020/11/10/tom-weiss-creator-of-lockonfiles-has-passed-away/  and now LockOnFiles has now been shut down and is no more, now there is nowhere else on the web to download the OZx Goose, it's now gone from the internet.

I want people to still be able to have access to and be able to enjoy this wonderful airplane.  I know someone has made the OZx Grumman Goose Redux II which is a redone version of the plane for MSFS so at least it still lives on in that way but I know there's plenty of people that still use legacy ESP flight simulators and I want to give everyone the opportunity to still be able to fly the original OZx Goose airplane.

What I want to do is upload it to the AVSIM library as well as other freeware libraries so it can be easily found for anyone that wants it.  I want to find a way to save this wonderful classic freeware plane from completely disappearing.  Usually when I download freeware, the developer will write in their readme file any notices about redistributing or modifying and redistributing their works.  I've noticed many freeware developers don't mind it if others redistribute their works as long as it's in it's original form and not modified.

I do have the original and unmodified OZx Goose that I downloaded from LockOnFiles a few years back.  The OZx Goose does not come with a readme file but it does come with a pdf that talks about it's development however, it does not mention any rules regarding redistribution of the plane so I don't know if it would be ok to redistribute it or not.  I have no idea how to contact the original developers to ask for permission so I don't know what to do.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on what I should do.  Can I upload it to freeware sites myself or not?  If it's not a good idea then what else can I do to save this wonderful airplane from extinction?  Please help me to save this airplane.

Thank you

Hi Kalnon,

The original dev crew must still be around given they produced an MSFS version.

Maybe the MSFS package has contact details ?

Cheers

I did not realize it was the same team that made the MSFS version.  If it is, I wonder why they haven't uploaded the original version to a freeware site.  It used to be over on the flyawaysimulation library at one time but something happened where it got deleted off their servers, then the only place to find it was LockOnFiles until that shut down.  I will try to contact the developers of the MSFS version and see what they say.

If you search for: "Vladimir Gonchar" on simviation.com, he made a standalone package of the Goose, which is really nice.

Its the: "FSX Grumman Goose Package V2.1"

Works fine, and looks great in p3d 5.4. 🙂

Interesting, thanks.  I found it but haven't had a chance to try it yet though I have a hard time believing that it's as good as the OZx Goose but still worth checking out.  I like to see what people can create
