New cpu suggestion

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i recently got a 4070. Had a 3070ti and mainly got the 4070 for FG

i have a 12700 i7 and was thinking of upgrading the platform as well. Was wondering what’s the latest and best cpu at the moment?

Leaning toward the amd ryzen 7 7800x3d

however how’s the intel side?

also planning to go from 1080p to 4k

Fenix, pmdg all add on airports etc with fsltl

thank you

Hi there,

I am having a 12900K and 4090RTX same for FG upgraded it from 3080ti.

I am waiting for intel 14900K to tune in and see what it does and how it compares to both 13900K and the 7800X3D/7950X3D. Could become a winner until 2025 lineup comes.

I9 12900K @ 5.1ghz P-cores/ 4.0 ghz E-cores fixed HT off / Corsair iCue H150i Capellix Cooler/ MSI Z690 CARBON WiFi / 32GB Corsair DDR5 RAM @ 5200 mhz XMP on / 12GB MSI 4090 RTX Ventus 3 / 7,5 total TB SSD (2+2+2+1+0,5 all NVMe)/ PSU 850W Corsair / 27" (1080P)

Hey thanks for your reply. I still think my cpu is the bottle neck and hence I think with the amd processor it may help?

I suspect with 4K the 4070 will be the bottleneck, but I may be wrong. The 12700K is a strong CPU and should be fairly well matched with a 4070. Obviously a 7800x3d would be a step up, but you should be seeing really good fps and a smooth sim with the 12700K and 4700 with FG. As you can see from my sig my system is inferior to yours by a long shot. Considering MSFS 2024 coming next year with purported improvement in performance over MSFS 2020 I'm probably going to stick with what I have and evaluate upgrade paths after 2024 comes out. Before 2024 was announced I was going to build a 13900K or 7800x3d with RTX 4090, fast memory, and a fast M.2 PCIe SSD. Now with the 2024 announcement I am not as confident that hardware will be necessary. Maybe a 13600K or 13700K with a 4070ti or 4080 will be more than adequate, and the difference is many hundreds of dollars. Not that hundreds is that big of a deal, but why waste it if I don't have to.

yes I suspect my 4070 may not run 4K well. Do u think a x3d 7800 with 1440p would be better?

Clinton,

Really I am not the one to say as I haven't tried 4K and I don't have an RTX 4000 series GPU. Many other experts here could provide advice based on experience I don't have. I will say that there are many on the forums who have pointed out that 4K requires a lot of GPU memory, certainly more than 8GB or 12GB, and many have suggested 16GB is not enough for 4K. A 4070 with 7800x3d at 1440p would scream! I run 1440p and even my meager system doesn't do too bad...as long as I don't load the sim up with a bunch of AI traffic (heavy CPU strain for my system).

I still think you're trying to talk yourself into a 7800x3d, which is great for MSFS, but if you're going to run 1440p the 12700K with the 4070 and FG should give you a REALLY smooth sim with good fps...I would think certainly 40+ fps maybe 50-60 in almost all situations. Even my basic system gives me my target 33 fps in all but heavy traffic + heavy scenery + PMDG 737 situations. If you really want to load up on AI traffic, no doubt the 7800x3d is the way to go!

Some prices dropping good news bad news due mostly by lack of sales, future cut in production of desktop hardware.
