October 20, 20232 yr [Before daydreaming about the various places I could visit in the MSFS World, including the (U.S.) mainland destinations cited by Steve D, in my other post....] As I sat on the O'Hare Runway, in the cockpit of my Beech Bonanza G36, having barely got my feet wet in MSFS (need all the auto-assist features for now...🙂...), I asked myself where I should travel to...somewhere (near) I've travelled before frequently (in RW). KIND/Indianapolis, came to my mind, but it was too far for my intent....🙂... Then I thought of this University Town, South Bend, which has the airport, KSBN/South Bend International (not a small airport, by any means, has ILS Runways, and has the prestigious Title "Intl" as suffix in the name). Long ago, for about a year, I used to visit South Bend, quite regularly. I'd even spent a whole Summer on the (Notre Dame) Campus there. There are two ways to go there from Chicago (not counting the air mode, which I've used here...virtually...): One can drive on the Expressway I-90, curving around the bottom cusp of Lake Michigan, or take the Train from the Chicago Union Station, both of which I've done several times. For road, I often used to leave at dawn, to avoid the morning rush on I-90. So, to mimic that condition, here, I've also left in dawn light, on a short ~80 miles flight (from KORD to KSBN) - the road distance is about 110 miles. The flight distance is shorter because it cuts across Lake Michigan (see Garmin MFD MAP display, below). For my flight, I've set up an IFR (low altitude) FlightPlan to the ILS 09R Approach of KSBN (see Inset on Garmin PFD). For simplicity, after lifting off, I've executed a [DIR-To] towards KNUTE (the IAF fix for this ILS Runway), then flying eastward (towards the rising Sun - suggest a viewing of Steve's post/image too for the same), across/over a short stretch of Lake Michigan, and have landed on Rwy 09R with ILS guidance. This nice (and east-to-fly) single-prop Bonanza (virtual pilot speaking here...🙂...) did not fail me on the (exploratory) flight here. Please find 5 screenshots, below, from my short adventure in MSFS, flown in dawn light, as exactly I used to travel (though on the ground), many years ago...it all already looks so much better (to me) than anything I've seen in my past SIMs... Thanks for viewing and your interest. Good flying...!!
October 20, 20232 yr Nice shots. I'd been wondering if your recent respite in posting here was due to an FSX-to-MSFS transition period. 🙂

October 21, 20232 yr Author John, Will, pmplayer: Many thanks for the kind comments...🙂 ... [John: This was unexpected (not a planned transition), and the respite could have very well lasted much longer...never thought I would be flying MSFS on a TV ...🙂 ...with an Xbox like my teen does for Videogames, but this is not bad at all...these new 4K HDR TVs are excellent, I do know there will be issues with mods/fidelity enhancements for some (advanced) a/c, but meanwhile there is plenty to look around with the ~60 a/c included in the Premium edition. In FSX, I/we hardly ever flew the default a/c and the default scenery, but this here is so much different...thanks...] Edited October 21, 20232 yr by P_7878
