October 24, 20232 yr I've been wanting the PMDG DC-6 for a very long time but I'm really getting tired of waiting for them to update it for P3Dv5 (I have v5.4). I've done some searches on the web and found mixed results regarding P3Dv5 installation. Some say it works, some say it doesn't and I can't find if there are specific instructions on how to make it work in P3Dv5. I would greatly appreciate any advice before I blow $70 on it, thank you. Use the registry trick posted in the top of this forum. Works 100% in version5 or 6. Their failure to provide an installer after saying they would three years ago is a real sore spot with me. Thanks, I've already done that registry trick but it's good to know that's all I need for it to work. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. Now I know I won't be wasting my money. Also I agree with you 100%, it should not have taken very long for them to officially update the airplane for P3Dv5. As you said, they've had years to test compatibility and make an installer and instead they keep cranking out all those MSFS aircraft that I would never buy.
October 24, 20232 yr If you're after similar era plane (i.e. 4 engined piston) A2A have the following, both are very good and come with P3D v5 installers. https://a2asimulations.com/product/captain-of-the-ship-049-constellation-p3d-academic-copy/ https://a2asimulations.com/product/accu-sim-b-17g-p2dv4-5/ Both are a challange to fly and support consequences, e.g. in the B17 I once neglected to enable oxygen for the pilot resulting in the pilot eventually blacking out and the B17 becoming a ghost plane until the fuel ran out. Cheers Ryzen 5800X clocked to 4.7 Ghz (SMT off), 32 GB ram, Samsung 1 x 1 TB NVMe 970, 2 x 1 TB SSD 850 Pro raided, Asus Tuf 3080Ti P3D 4.5.14, Orbx Global, Vector and more, lotsa planes too. Cheers Thanks for the recommendations, I have the Constellation for FSX which I still fly, I haven't gotten around to buying the P3D version yet. The A2A Connie was the first A2A aircraft I ever bought. I even have the B377 I still fly in FSX too, now that plane is a real beast. I really wish A2A would have updated that plane for P3D. Both planes are fun and challenging to fly. I never thought of trying the B17 though, it does look really nice. I do have the Aeroplane Heaven B17 but I'm guessing the A2A version is probably much better. I'll have to really consider that one. I also have the Flight Replica's DC-4 which I also a fantastic airplane as well as the B314 The Clipper flying boat by Pilots FSG. I kind of have a thing for large vintage planes. What can I say, I love these types of old school 4 engine propeller airplanes, they are so unique and fun to fly.

I'm sure you're aware there are many freeware vintage planes available at sites like California classics and Fly Away simulations. I have a C97, B36, DC7 L188 to name a few. Not study level but some are pretty close and fun nevertheless. Since you keep FSX installed the world's your oyster in that regard. Best Free FSX & P3D Photoreal Scenery Add-ons for 2023 (flyawaysimulation.com) California Classic Propliners (calclassic.com) I've not tried many of those planes, I'll have to go check them out. I've never heard of that second website you posted, that's very interesting, thank you so much for sharing. And you are right, one of the main reasons why I still use FSX is because of the truly endless amount of free and payware mods scattered around out there on the internet. The world really is my oyster with FSX, I've spent endless hours searching... The hardest part is finding where the hell it all is 😂 I used to look all the time but I haven't flown any "home made" freeware aircraft in a long while, not that I mind flying those kinds of freeware aircraft, I've been so focused on my many payware aircraft and payware turned freeware (Aeroplane Heaven, Milviz, etc.) for both FSX and P3Dv5 that I haven't had time to really go look and see what's all out there. I do have a small handful of freeware planes at places like flyawaysimulation, avsim, simviation, flightsim.com but it's been a long time since went looking for more to try. I really should go and do that, I do really enjoy seeing what people can create and it's so rewarding when I find a really good one. I do use the first link you posted to download that scenery it lists. I use the free meshes and I love flying Hawaii for example, with the free scenery package listed there. It's amazing, it comes with everything, photoscenery, autogen and airports all together for all islands. It's the best Hawaii scenery package you can get. Edited October 25, 20232 yr by Kalnon
